Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I measured my hair today and I'm honestly still one inch away from APL. A week ago when I measured I was 1/2 inch away from APL, not sure how that happened.
I feel like I've been one inch away from APL for over 2 months with no trimming. The slow growth of winter is not helping. Sigh.
Right now it looks like I 'might' get there in March. Maybe it's like water, if you watch it then it won't boil (grow). lol
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I'm just starting to grow SL to APL and I feel like it's gonna be a loooong journey. :(
The 'lower' layers (I hope that makes sense in English) seem to grow quite fast and are at collarbone now (my neck isn't very long :D). Unfortunately they are a lot straighter and healthier then the upper layers. There are still some (curiously reddisch and greenish looking :o) bleached parts in those, and they don't react well with the oil shampooing that the rest of my hair seems to love. I think I'll have to cut 2-3 inches to get all the damage out. And thanks to shrinkage, I'll have to cut even more of the straighter hair underneath or it'll look very stupid.
Any tips?

You could try adding more oil just to the damaged parts during washing and see how that works. That may save you from having to cut it.
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I guess since I trimmed a bit, I'm hovering above APL now. Maybe by the end of March...?
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I feel like I'm so close to APL that I wonder if I can call it APL already? Next month I really should be there. Then again, you never know what happens. Feel free to check the pic in my album and tell me what you think my current length is ;)

Thanks MinderMutsig, I had the same idea and tried it (even applying coconut oil before applying the oil/shampoo mixture) but it didn't work very well. Eventually I'll have to cut it anyway, also because of the funny color. :D I just hope it'll be managable until I'm at APL, then it won't feel like my hair is short again.
Ps. Are you the the same MinderMutsig as on FOK? I'm a huge lurker over there. :o

Yup that's me! lol
Ah well, cutting off damage isn't a bad thing. The length will grow back and in better shape. ;)
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Did any one of you already do a diagonal french braid? Is it possible at this length?

Yes!! Although I haven't finished one on myself, I saw a really beautiful diagonal french braid that dani did, and I love to braid my friends' hair and can definitely do one of these at shoulder length or less. If there's leftover hair you can make multiple braids out of it.
I love french braids but I get so discouraged when I braid my own hair because I can't actually SEE the french braid. Really ... it's like trying to spot a dark brown horse in a dark brown forest against a dark brown sky... ((sigh)) but I know my hair can't handle color in the long term so I'd better not highlight and lowlight it in an attempt to make my braids look better... oh well.
