Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Happy New Year everyone! I have been away from the computer for much of the Holidays. I hope everyone had a good holiday season (for those who celebrate it anyhow).
Corvana You hair looks so lovely! It must be so exciting to see it almost at BSL!
A quick little question for everyone. How many of you trim your own hair? I am finding it really difficult to get the courage to try because it is so short on the top layers. Does any one have any tips/tricks?

I don't trim when I don't have any splits or other damage, and that usually happens around BSL, when I can braid my hair and trim the ends (although I prefer to ask my mom to trim my hair for me). But I'm wavy/curly, so I don't really need even hemline, I think - at least, if it's not super-uneven (like when it's longer on the left side, that happens to me sometimes). And even then, I prefer to wear it up and forget about the hem. I love my length too much:o
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Thank you everyone for the support!
Corvana, I don't want to give you high hopes, but you are VERY close to APL, I think you will be entitled to call it sooner than you planned. And no one is going to say you're cheating, you're doing the towel test, that's pretty bullet proof.
_fred_, you have some great growth happening there, and I'm loving the pink, what a great idea to cheer yourself up! I admire your determination to get your hair to look even, I wish I had the patience to do that. I hope your cough goes away fast.:blossom:
Renora25, to trim my layers I use this method
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZQrgRn_dsw4
You don't have to feather the ends like she does, do just a blunt cut if that's what you prefer. Also, trim off only very little, like 1/4 inch the most, work on small sections and make sure you use very sharp shears. The cut should be very clean and precise, if you feel the shears are sawing through your hair, they are not sharp enough or the hair strand is too thick. On the hemline part, I can't be of much help, I'm using the Lillith Moon tutorial, but you get a V shaped hemline, and it might not be your thing. The main thing is that you don't trim off too much, that way, if you should happen to make a mistake, it won't be as obvious or you can still get it fixed at a salon without losing length.

Thank you!
I trim my own hair to shoulder, and then I ignore it until it's longer. Mostly because I've always cut it over my shoulders (like the Feye's method), and before APL+ or BSL it's a lot harder for me to do evenly. So I either cut a LOT (and it ends up at shoulder or a little past), or I wait a million years so I can more easily cut a little lol. I actually wanted to do a little trim on the first, but I wasn't able to get my hair to be in anyway even enough that I could trim just a bit without worrying about losing more length than I'd like! So I'm just gonna wait. It'll probably be fine.

Oh it's not everyone else I'm worried about, it's myself! I still think that I'm not actually really so close because "what if I'm moving my fingers when I measure and I'm not really growing that much" or whatever. That's why I'm doing the towel test LOL. That way I can have a pic and be like "SEE, SELF! SEE!!"
And I know I don't have to wait until April, but unless I get a huge growth spurt and gain that inch and a half before March, I may as well wait. I've got my measuring dates planned (1/28, 2/25, 3/25, 4/22, etc), and my picture dates planned (1/01, 4/01, 7/01, 10/01), and if I grow .5"/month then I'll hit 22.5" in March and see it on 3/25, which is exactly a week before 4/01! I'd rather push my milestone moving back a week than take a photo early by a week  And I could just take a photo both times, but I'm like whyyyyyyyyy. They'll be almost identical! I won't see any difference! And then I'll feel bad about not having grown at all.
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I am too afraid to cut my own hair whilst short too - if it really needs Id find a hair dresser you trust to do a trim, otherwise just let it grow!
No going to attempt my own trim until all my hair is in a ponytail long enough to bring forward & see what Im trimming!

Sounds like a plan (I probably should be taking notes)! It does seem to be true that we are our own worst critic :)
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I can totally understand why you want to do your picture on your set date in April rather than early ... even though you will probably hit APL sooner I understand wanting to wait until then and I think if you’re like me you should wait
It’s going to mean you’re slightly further APL when you join the new thread
It will feel quicker to wait until April knowing you will be at that milestone starting a new thread rather than joking the new thread asap and ending up feeling like you’re there longer
I dunno it’s just how I work
I feel like April is easy to wait until ... after all this time April would be amazing to hit APL FINALLY
if you don’t trim you would then be only two months from compelteing he first half 2018 no trim challenge and you could post a pic for that too so something to aim at just after joking the APL thread
I think APL to BSL will be much quicker or at least feel it
You will be in the true long hair category then you will have achieved a huge milestone imo
Waiting until April to celebrate isn’t too bad right ?
( and secretly I might be hoping to follow you into the thread soon after hopefully too )

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Corvana, ohhh, I know that feeling - I'm still in doubts about my CBL (even though I know that my hair is longer on the back and it's just my front layers that are deceiving me). But I decided to stop worrying about it - it's long enough to wear it up all the time, so I'm thinking "this is no different from having APL" and don't measure. I probably won't take length pics till the end of February (3 months since my first pic). Sounds quite similar to your plan, so maybe we are doing something right:beercheer: It's certainly not going to grow backwards, you know:)
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
This is is what I was doing from Shoulder length and I couldn’t see any growth at all for months it’s only when I recently found by accident an old photo of my ponytail from July and room one the other day Andy compared you can see significant change .
It may give the illusion it’s not growing at times and it’s really daunting and honestly it was getting me depressed I thought something was wrong with me

It depends on your personality, I guess. I've had trichotillomania as a teen, and for me wearing my hair down was a trigger :( And I take all sorts of measurements to the extreme, like weighting myself everyday (I'm trying to gain weight now) and getting upset about the fluctuations, so I discovered it's better for me to be accurate with those things. YMMV, as always:flowers:
I edited my previous post right after I wrote it, but you've already replied, so don't be surprised by it.
