I can do a really really short braid! It's only a couple of bumps, and only starts at the nape. But it's another indication it's growing! :)

Same here with the headaches and migraines. People who don't suffer from migraines don't seem to understand that I have to deal with a headache right now if I don't want to risk a major migraine episode later. The favourite is, "Why don't you wait half an hour and see if it wears off, rather than reaching for the painkillers now?"
On that note, I have a headache-threatening-migraine today (most likely head and humidity induced) so what bright idea did I have? 'I think I've got enough hair at the back to go through the motions of an upside down French braid. Let's try it.' I've realised that my 'forward' braiding technique needs work because I tend to hold two strands in between the same fingers. It doesn't matter when I'm doing an English braid because I do it quickly, but while I'm fishing around to isolate some hair to join to the current section, the other two sections start to velcro themselves back together! At least I know now that I have a bad braiding habit to break. (And I gave up before the headache got any worse.)
I've been thinking that. Next time I try double braids, I think I'll just let my hair part wherever it wants to, which is always off-centre and crooked, and then do 'deliberately' mismatched braids.
I'll have a look for it. I think there's been some talk about broken toys in the thick hair thread too.
Congratulations. I could probably get a couple of bumps from my nape hair, but my layers are still way too short to get into anything but French/Dutch braids.
Thank you all for being so welcoming and for the thread recommendations. I will add photos once I know how.
Woohoo!! I think I've got about 2 or 3, as well? I'd mentioned it in the "count your bumps" thread a bit ago! I can't wait to get more
I know! I usually do give it some time, but that's just because I'm incredibly forgetful and will forget to get up and get pain meds. I've actually started keeping a small bottle on my desk right in front of me, since the problem is getting the executive function to get up and go to the cabinet without getting distracted by literally anything else. I've had less full migraines since I did that, and I'm very glad.
Yeah!! It'll be super cute, too, I bet. My hair likes to part right in the middle, which I hate. It just looks terrible on me most of the time! I prefer to do a mid-side part (about where my eyebrow arch is), since my hair isn't thick enough to look good on one side with a deeper part  I learned that I like how I look with a side part back when I was growing out my bangs and would twist them and pin them off to one side.
Hair regrets got me down today! I can't wait until I reach the length I was before I chopped. It was the longest my hair had ever been  That will be a huge milestone for me: surpassing my pre-chop length.
My mom came over for a visit and commented on how close I am to APL, so that made me feel good.
I still have a bit hair in very light bangs because I have a very high forehead and I don't like how it looks without some hair on it. Plus, I'm starting to get a couple of lines, and I'm vain ... They're a bit short at the moment because I trimmed them myself and forgot how much they'd tighten up when the hair was shorter, but the good thing about hair is that it always grows again. I'm kind of tempted to make them a bit heavier, but not sure if it's a good idea because I like the way they blend in with my other front layers when it's down, so I'm going to grow a bit more while I think about it.
I tried the uneven double braids today, and I think I can make something really fun out of it as my hair gets longer. The bigger one is on the left, and I've got them joining up in the middle rather than ending separately. When it's long enough, I can join them together into one, and bring the single braid over my right shoulder, so it looks like the left one is the 'real' braid, and the right one just feeds into it. I might even be able to split the right one into two when my arms get a bit more used to the uncomfortable braiding position, and have two small braids feeding into one big one.
How long was your hair before? Mine was TBL 10 years ago, and it worked its way up to a really short pixie over a couple of years. I only started growing it again 18 months ago, and it's at shoulder now. I'm trying to focus on learning all kinds of styles that I couldn't get to grips with when I tried to learn them on TBL hair, but I'm sure I'll go through phases of wishing I hadn't been so stupid as to cut it all off.
Mine was waist length and I was aiming to grow longer but last December I just impulsively chopped. I didn't realize how attached to my long hair I actually was. It took me 3 months to get over the initial shock of what I had done. Now I know, without a doubt, I want long hair (knee is my goal) and I will never chop again. I know once I reach pre-chop length, I won't have have these occasional bouts of sadness and regret over my stupid decision, only excitement for what is coming.
I just got 2 1\2 inches of the longest layer cut off today. If I ever say anything about a choppy bob, somebody slap me.
Sounds like we're in the same position, I grew my hair to waist (longest it has ever been) and chopped it off after getting too frustrated with the damage. I wish I had just trimmed it away instead of cutting it shorter than I needed to, but nothing to do about that now.
