LULUJ, are you following me?!?!?!:bigtongue:
Shoot, I should be following you b/c I think your hair might be a bit longer than mine. Have you measured the length? I always measure wet (to keep it more consistent) .... 19 3/4".

Hrmm, you look like you might be APL even. Hey, I'm pretending to be SL when maybe 3 hairs touch my trap muscles. I'm tired of being a super shorty, I've always been there.... I wanna be in the big (long) hair club...
Hair styles I can manage (from most professional/adult to ewww, but it's off my neck)
Low ponytail at nape. It's not all off my neck, but it allows some air flow. This wins simply because it does all go with the assistance of 2 pins hidden behind my ears.
Gibson tuck. Tend to loose the front sections, but it's ok with a few pins. Need a "filler" for the tuck to hide the ends that want to pop up.
Peacock twist. Woohoo, and it nearly all stays also :) Need a medium Ficcare now, I've outgrown my small :)
Lace braided to the nape, then English braid the ends, then pinned under the other. Think it'll look better with more practice.
French (ish) braided pigtails. Ok if I'm only at work and not meeting people. Also pretty good for hiding the fact that I needed to wash my hair and overslept :p Looks better if I manage to tuck the tassle under the braids.
Sock bun!! Ok, big fat cheater method. I use whatever my hair can hide. Then, get my big pretty flower clip, and clip that over the top. My ends pop out some, and people seriously think I have a big bun with longer hair. Hehehe. I can't do the full rolled version yet.
Flipped ponytail. Flip the ends up so you have a wee stubby bump. My main daily not at work style. Have cheated it at work when the tuck or sock bun failed, just put the clip decor over the ends and band.
Piggie tails. Fine, I look like I'm 3. Given as my mental age someday is about that, I don't care. Best I have for trying clothes on since most of the hair is secure and thus doesn't frizz when I take something off over my head.
Rope braided pigtails. Might not look bad if you take the time to do them right vs just putting your oiled but not washed hair up.
My messy attempt at a French braid. Heh. Half of it will fall out at the end of the day. I can't get it to lay flat and not pop on top when I braid. But this is called practice and I will learn and eventually my hair will stay.
Lots of little French braids, can get like 12 or so in with 6 baby English also. Wear it for serious workouts or if I teach a class. Hair stays put and doesn't move. Doesn't look the best on my very straight very fine white girl hair. Not meant to look pretty, meant to hold till the cows come home. And it does. If I'm leaving it in for longer than a day, I'll look around for someone who has the braids in nicely and try to do that.
Headband and a pathetic 2 bump English braid. Yes, it sucks. I know that. It looks like blech. It's what I sleep in if I'm not washing my hair in the morning. Also with the band and a ponytail, not bad for going running.
NEARLY at a French twist using YellowChariot's method. Not quite there. Either the top or the bottom will be too loose and slip out.
A lot of buns start working as a baby bun in a half up. I call it practice time.
For me, I can get all of my hair back except for about 2" in the front, or all but the fringe at my nape if I put it up higher. The front section is easier to deal with, so I put anything in lower. The front, I clip it back under the rest of my hair first, so it all looks smooth, or put little braids in, or lace braid it to a tail or braid it back into your length, then twist and put in the Gibson tuck.
Any scarf looks pretty with it around your hair, plus it protects from the sun.
Hi Jenn:waving: It would seem that we are very close in length, although I haven't actually measured my hair, wet or dry, although I plan to now!! Nothing like a "fun" competition to keep a girl focused:p;) I'll measure after my shower today and then report back!:D
Hello MandyBeth! I want to be in the same club!!:cheese: Thanks for all of the styling suggestions!:flower:
OK....just measured my hair, soaking wet, and it is exactly 19 inches.....had my hubby double check and he came up with the same number, so it's official, Jenn, you are ahead of me by a mere 1/2 inch:bowtome:so, let the games begin:applause We will, of course, keep this friendly!:flower::flower::flower::bounce:
Hi everyone! I've been reading this forum for a quite a long time, and now decided to join the fun:)
My own hair is, surprise, to my shoulders, chestnut brown and a bit wavy, and growing to APL is kind of a mini goal before continuing to at least BSL. It would probably be much longer if I just had stopped listening to my sisters, who insisted(and they still do) that I shoud never grow it past shoulders because it would not look nice, and they would keep saying it until I would let them cut it. Now though I'm not letting them do that anymore.
Fortunately, I'm still fairly young, so I have veeery much time(but the fact that I'm incredibly impatient is not making the growing any faster), so I'll most likely hit BSL by the time I'm seventeen or so.
And I have to say, thank you, reading this forum saved my hair from many more years of damage(I blowdryed, ripped the comb through the hair etc.). Thanks!:D
Oh, and, sorry about the spelling mistakes, if there were any, English is not my first language.
After many painful months in shoulderland, I think my hair is brushing APL now... can it be? Will take a length shot tomorrow :cheese:
19.25 inches! Grow little hairs, grow!
Well, I did a length shot. Basically the very ends of my hair are brushing the crease of my armpit. I'd go ahead and call this APL, but I'm getting a trim today, so I'll be at SL+ for a while longer.
21" pre-cut. That seems to be 2 inches since June 4th. Not bad! :cheese:
So, if I get 3" off today, it should take 3-6 months to grow back.
My hair seems to be getting wider as well. I guess it's just it spreading out over my shoulders. Eventually the weight should calm it down.
Me, me! I am halfway between the base of my neck and APL. I usually end up cutting back up to above my shoulders at this lenght (and spent most of the last 20+ years in a bob). I recently switched my basic multi-vitamin to the skin-hair-nails multi from my favorite local co-op and was asked a month later (by a male co-worker, no less), what the heck was up with my hair. I was told it looked a lot longer than the day before even! Am hopeful to reach APL by the end of the year.
I've got about 3 inches to go before APL. Grow faster hair!
I'm going crazy staring at the wasteland between neck and APL aahhhh :silly:
*sigh*
Yeah, I know. It's my own fault. I wanted blue hair. I knew exactly what I was doing when I bleached the ends.
I got all the green off (except for couple missed strands which I'll S&D). It's pretty much where it was in April when I started taking length shots. :shake:
Can I join in? I think I'm only about 2 inches from APL, so I'm telling myself I'll be there by Christmas! My nasty ends will need a little trim by then though. (I'm still kicking myself for letting my mum cut my hair earlier this year before I'd measured or photographed it - I think she took off about 3 inches :( .)
By the way, can anyone direct me to a thread with some hints on how to take photos of your own hair? I've searched a bit but can't find anything that seems to help. I'm having trouble working out how to do it, and my mirrors are useless, and the light's all wrong...
Welcome :)
I'm not sure if there's a thread about taking pictures. I have a self timer on my camera. I set it to 10 seconds and set it on my dresser, then run in front of it. If you don't have that setting, you can stand with your back to a mirror and set the camera on your shoulder or on top of your head to make sure it's a good angle. Also, the flash may just make a big glare, so you might want to turn it off. If that won't work, I'm not sure how else to do it without another person.
Maybe you can buy a webcam? I bet there's free software out there to do a timed picture.
Thanks XcaliburGirl, I can see I'm just going to have to spend some more time playing with my camera (and my hair). I'll get it eventually!
Wow, seems like I've been in this thread forever! :) I have one more inch to go - thought I'd be there by August, but it's looking more like end September now. I think this length seems the longest because of the swell of our chests - you know? it seems like it isn't getting longer because it curves up with our (ahem) bosoms - whereas it *looks* longer at the back!
Urg... shoulder to APL is so hard! My hair is very curly, so when wet it's very close to APL - maybe an inch off. However, my hair shrinks as it dries... and since it sits on my shoulders, it shrinks even more! I can't wait for my hair to grow long enough that it's weight pulls the curls down. Anyone else have this problem?
I'm hoping that by December I'll be solidly at APL (even when it's dry?) and maybe in a year I'll be approaching/at BSL.
Best of luck to everyone else in these hard times :P
I guess I can finally upgrade myself to this thread now ^_^ Its hard for me to use a simple measurement for my SL to APL documenting because my hair is nothing but layers right now. I think APL is so hard for me at least because all I can manage with my hair right now is a ponytail. APL seems to exotic for new hairdos ^_^ For predicting, if I am lucky, I might hit APL by December, but I think my hair stalls in winter so it might not be APL until April even. So long to go -_-;
I realised last weekend when I straightened my hair (I know its very naughty) for a wedding that it is JUST ABOUT APL :cheese:
hehehe I did a little dance in my bathroom when I saw it!
I have pretty much stopped heat styling, and no trims for about 6 months, minimal washing and no box dye and it is FINALLY starting to get there. I felt like it had stalled abit at the just past shoulder length but it is actually because it is developing a slight curl/wave pattern which makes it look abit shorter when it is dry.
I have a med school interview next month and I am going to need a trip to the HD before that to get it tidied up and looking neat and nice... I am a little bit worried that they will take too much off so I will be watching the stylist like a hawk :(
So I think when my hair is sopping wet, its juuuuuuust about APL, but once it's dry, it sproings back up to about two inches below shoulder. Oh curly hair...
Hopefully I can be solid APL by winter? Maybe?
Getting a bit antsy to move on to officially call my hair APL at this point. It's definitely there when it's soaking wet, I'm just waiting for it to make it there dry. Grow hair, grow! I'm less than an inch off, I think, so I'll probably be able to call it when I do my October 1 length pic. :cheese: Best of all, it's been starting to feel long again lately.
Last night before bed I actually noticed the length of my hair on my upper back!!!:cheese: It was soooo weird feeling it brush against my skin. (had on a tank top) It's been a long time (13-ish years) since that has happened!!!
Im in! :D
My braids are getting longer, and my hair is slowly growing, bit by bit :)
22,5" when pulled straight (which is about APL) and 20,5" when curly !! My hair is starting to feel long.
Can't wait when it's APL curly...should hit my first major milestone in October and reach my final goal of BSL in late Spring :)
My hair is technically APL if I gently pull it straight. This is going by the shortest lengths in the front, so I'm reasonably certain that if I could reach it in the back to lightly tug out the wave, the back would be at least APL if not slightly beyond.
However, as I still do not seem to have the length for hairstyles I should be able to do at APL, and my hair is about an inch or two shy when I don't pull it straight, I'm going to stay in this thread. Stupid waves.

GROW HAIR GROWWW
I'm still here- just past shoulder length really... sigh. But its growing and thats the main thing!
i have just decided that i have graduated this thread! when you guys are ready you can join this thread. http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/...ad.php?t=54724
Man alive, summer needs to be over so I can have my inch of growth a month back!
I'm dyeing my hair this week ^^ So excited!
I havent posted in this thread much but ive kept up on reading everytime I see it in my feed, I am "can I call this APL?" right now but waiting another month or 2 before I call it
So I think my longest layers in back are a little passed apl when stretched out since they are pretty curly but my short layers are about shoulder length. I am going to give them a little longer to get to collar bone or passed a bit and then cut so everything is the same length. I jsut like the idea of that better. So i will be in this group for a while. This is by far the longeest my hair has ever been so just enjoying it
My hair finally just reaches shoulder! Well the ends just scrape my shoulders.
It has taken me 5months! Another 6months and hopefully I'll be at APL
Does anybody else have a problem with hair sticking to the front? I'm scared it will try to part at the back of my head in stick to the front like it used to. It is starting to do this I think.
I also think it will take me way more than 6 months to reach APL. I think I have been at SL for about 4 months. Granted, there was 1,5 inch trimming involved in between but I rather have nice ends.
I feel like I've been at shoulder length forever! I can't wait for APL, my ends are exactly at the length where they stick straight down into my shirt neckline and it's annoying!
I had my hair in a low ponytail this afternoon and a coworker came by and pulled on the tail a little bit and said "YOUR HAIR IS GROWING!!!!" ... yay!!! :)
I am excited to have some shoulder length people who are where I am. I kept posting.. I'm not really APL but I'm a little past shoulder, felt so outsider-ish... but now I have finally found my thread with those like me! :)
Those of you growing from shoulder to APL, how long have you been on the LHC? This forum is crazy good, and I'm loving hearing how other peoples hair has improved from being here! :)
I've reached APL and am now going to unsubscribe from this thread :D :cheese:
