Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
ChrisDee - our hair is just about the same length! I do not plan on trimming my hair at all, heading for waist and beyond without scissors touching it. I just started being able to bun it, I can do a french twist, a sock bun, or use a claw clip to hold it up and most of it stays. How can it grow if I cut it off?
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Ohhhhhhh, KD, look how BEAUTIFUL your hair looks! :applause: You'll be at waist in no time, it's amazing how quickly one accumulates length without trims! :cheese:
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I'm in this category.:)
I'm growing my hair out for the second time after cutting it from almost waist to shoulders.
My hair is really thin and I want to see if I can grow it again but thicker this time. (by taking vitamins, doing regular trims, and taking better care of my hair).
I would post a picture here but I can't figure out how. When I figure it out I will.:)
Good luck everyone!
by the way, I recommend regular trims for those of us that have fine, thin hair. I grew my hair out without trims, but the result wasn't great. Then you have to cut off all the bad ends eventually anyways so I think its better to keep the ends nice all the time.:)
I am hoping to gain good quality length this time versus poor quality length. It might take longer but then I won't be unhappy with my hair and chop it all off.;)
It's important to like your hair at every stage on the journey.:)
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I have incredible news!!
Since I cut off 3" my growth rate has increased incredibly. Before it was at .25" a month. Now, in one week, it's grown nearly .5"! I can hardly believe it! It must be a miracle! :D
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I got my trim today...1" off everything (basically just getting rid of the wispy, scraggly, tangly racer hairs, and keeping the rest). I like it! My hair feels so tangle-free and I feel much more put-together now.
After the trim I have 6 solid, shiny, tangle-free inches of "net" growth since my last trim in December 2010....I'm very happy with that!
ETA: here's a picture of my hair after the trim. I used my Caruso rollers.

Wow! Your hair is beautiful!
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Looks like you got the hang of the Caruso hairsetter! Your curls are beautiful. Someday I might get the hang of the one I have.

Haha, you noticed! :) I'm pretty happy I got them working ... here's what I did for that picture:
- cone-free conditioner and oil in my hair, but no other products
- lots of rollers all rolling away from my face
- steam each roller and lid for 2-3 seconds each (more steam would just prolong the amount of drying time it needs and make my hair frizzy and soggy afterwards)
- leave the steam hole pointing towards the ground whenever possible (supposedly more steam gets to your hair this way)
- when I finish putting the rollers, I blow each steam hole for a few seconds with a hot hair dryer, to force the air through the roller
- take the rollers out immediately but I DON'T TOUCH the hair
- sit outside in the cold/dry winter air for 10-15 minutes (I think this is the step that makes the biggest difference)
- then I can finger-comb it to my heart's content and it stays springy and shiny.

HOOOOOOOOOOOORAY! :D
Yee-haw, I *finally* made it to this thread! I've been patiently waiting since I joined for my longest layers to get to my shoulders so that I can come join the shoulder to APL thread! I don't know exactly how many inches it is for me to get from shoulder to APL (will measure tomorrow probably), but I'm so glad to not be on this journey alone! If I'm super lucky, I'll be at APL in 8 months, just in time for my wedding. And even if I'm not, I know I'll be close. I hear getting to the next length usually seems like it takes forever, but as long as I get there I'll be happy.
