Once in a while I will wear hair up to sleep, i think it is probably better for it..but since I wear hair up all the time (unless going out) to keep it of my face I like the break of leaving it down. I am wondering if it will make hair frizzy or damaged even with the satin though..
Are you guys finding up or down being better?
BTW I am at CBL and cannot decide if I should grow to APL and then maintain to trim layers..or keep microtrimming and maintaining at CBL until layers are more manageable OR just simply grow knowing eventually the layers will look nice.. Right now they start at chin length and flip out everywhere! They were cut to flip I think so it will take even longer for them to lie down naturally. I would be happy just to get my avatar hair back at this point so don't know the best plan to get there.
So far I have been trimming so I have remained at CBL since Nov6 and I am getting kinda tired of this length..but more tired of these flippy layers.
Suggestions are very welcome.
I do a trim every time I hit a milestone or a mini milestone to get rid of my layers.. I take off .5" at a time and my layers are currently the last 1.5" of my length. (wait until you bypass a milestone by a bit for instance 1" past APL then trim .5" so you still have a length and you get a thicker hemline)
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
My hair just reaches APL while wet! It still has about an inch and a half or so to grow, but this was exciting for me to see! I'm just sitting around with my hair soaked in olive oil now. Two pigtail braids. I only wear them with an insane amount of oil in them so my layers don't stick out lol

Really good idea. I think that this is how I'll start timing my trims.
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I am in the no man's land of just below shoulder length. My layers are all over the place and as my ends are in good condition I have no intention of trimming yet to even them out. I am DESPERATE for my hair to grow as this length makes me look like a frump. I wear my hair up most of the time now as it is the only way to look halfway decent! Two years into growing out my pixie and I am still not satisfied. I have a long way to go. Maybe in two years time I will have swishy swooshy hair and will FINALLY be satisfied.
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Yeah,
Stuck here also!
And yesterday I did a trim because it was the first quarter moon and I figured a trim would give the hair a boost or something and make it healthier and happier.
I donīt know, but it seems like Iīve been here forever. It took a year and a half for the bangs to grow and I got impatient with them and the layers and cut the hair chin length to catch up, and now itīs like a huge puff of hair that I need to make into a pony or half up just to go outside.
Canīt wait till the hair can rest on my back and not all over my face!!!

Yeah. I just want to swing my hair to the back with one finger, all cute like that, and have it stay there!
Now itīs like, hair is covering my face!!!Ļ*runs to get clawclip*
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I'm so used to having shoulder length hair that my hair almost feels too long now. All of my usual styles are becoming difficult to do, aside from a cinnabun which is becoming increasingly easier to do. I'm so lazy too, I just want to wear it down, but I don't want to damage it.
When I wear it down I usually wear this satin button-up nightshirt that I found, but sometimes I still feel a hair catch somewhere on the fabric and break shudder: This happens with my satin pillowcase as well! Isn't satin supposed to be good for hair? The sound of breakage is the worst thing ever... and it's not like I can find the broken hair and trim it immediately, either!
I know I should probably move on to the APL to BSL thread, but it just doesn't feel right to leave just yet.
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I just realized I should reach the top of APL by my birthday in June! I pulled the hair in front straight and I'm at the bottom of the collarbone. I didn't notice because it flips up to around shoulder. I'm aiming for the top of BSL by the end of the year, but not so sure about that one. Anyway, one thing at a time, right? I just can't wait because at APL, I feel like I can stop calling it short and start moving into that "medium" length. At least I will be back into a length I've had before. So excited!
