Maybe this is just one of the obstacles that come with the territory of trying to reach APL? Like you, fhairyqueen, I thought I would reach APL by Christmas but it looks like that's not gonna happen. I'm so close though and it's aggravating.
I think it's definitely part of it. And I think some of that just comes from it not being long enough to do a whole bunch of "up and forget it" kind of styles. At least it is for me! I can do a couple things, and it gets a bit boring!
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I agree, I think it's a rite of passage. So annoying.
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
SL to APL is pretty much the worst stage, and it's the stage that many of us agree to as "the awkward stage". I've been from pixie to hip, and this is by far my least favorite few months of the growing out process.
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Urgh, I'm FINALLY back at shoulder lenght! Had to cut of some centimetres to slightly above my shoulders in the middle of September because of a Trich relapse.
But yes, I completely agree with you guys that the shoulder to apl-phase feels like it takes forever (hair growth, what is that :p?) I usually get bored, and do a big chop before reaching apl. And then regret it and tries to let it grow out again,, and gets bored, and it's a bad cycle going on.
But this time, I'm determined. I have found a highly motivating goal to keep going (growing) and to not cut my hair when I get bored:
my dear bf has promised me that he will not propose until I have reached apl. So I'll better go and lock them scissors away! ;)

I always feel so burnt out from the SL to APL stage that I have never been longer than BSL. It is the worst possible stage because the goal is hip.... Hopefully this time around it will move past BSL before I get annoyed with it....

BSL is where I felt like I was in the clear. Good luck!

Me too! Me too!
I thought I would hit APL by the end of the year but I don't think it's happening. Is APL really that far away from shoulder? Or is it because I have wavy ends? I can't tell. It's driving me nuts.

SL to APL can take quite a long time, it's about 4.5 inches on me, so roughly 8-9 months.

Woohoo! Welcome back! That's a really cute prize for hitting the APL goal!

I'm hoping the same. Before I didn't really care, but now that I do I really hate it . I'm wanting just a few more inches so that I can actually put my hair up and forget it. I can use a claw clip and scrunchies now, but sticks and forks only hold for a handful of hours before my hair slips out due to length.

SL to APL on me is like 6.5"! I remeasured my top half milestones, with assistance, and was pleasantly surprised that I was right when I did them on my own. Of course I was also annoyed because that meant the 6.5" trek from SL to APL was correct and I want to die. At least I'm only like 2.5" away now?
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I've been thinking of my hair as shoulder length for months, but I noted a couple of days ago that it's actually past collarbone length now. I'll post a picture when the seasonal hair growth thread revives. I took a picture on the first day of autumn, so I'll take a picture on the first day of winter and post them both.
