Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Yes I would definitely LOVE this do this challenge with you
Do you just put your hair straight up in the morning and only take it down when you go to bed ? Is it so not to length check during the month ?

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Thank you everyone for all the support
I really believed I would hit APL finally this time .
It is such a slowwwwww process
You take for granted when you have always had long hair just how long it takes to achieve long hair deliberately
I had waist length hair for years and never appreciated it
I also grew it out from shoulder which seemed fast as at the time I didn’t care about it
It’s also hard not to cut it as you can see there are orangey and blonde bits in my hair which is still left over bleach damage from two years ago

I know what you mean about not appreciating what you have...
I treated my WL hair so terribly, kept it loose all the time, or in a half pulled trough ponytail with an elastic with the metal thingie that ripped my hair out, ripped trough it with a brush after not combing for days, frying it with blowdryers and in the open sun in the summer....then i chopped it, then grew it again, to hip, screwed it with chemical dyes, then hennaed, decided to grow out my natural hair... At the end of the day, i had dry, damaged three colored hair which was Completely unmanageable, so i chopped all the dye off in a heavilly layered short bob style which almost looked like a long pixie at some point. I dyed my hair again, with the dye my stylist suggested. It wasn't too damaging, but the upkeep was too much. Then i decided to dye my hair at home and screwed it up again... i bought the dye in a bio store, but i didn't read that it had peroxide in it, which completely ruined my hair. That's when i decided this would be the last time i dye my hair and startes growing out natural. And here i am, i have about 3-4 inches of natural roots and SL bottom layer. The top layer is still just somewhere in the middle of my ears. I miss my long hair though... more with every day.

Yeah that is the general idea for it and having a non growth focus for your hair for a month. I did one during Feb which mostly went well. When I did that I went with the rule that hair couldn't be down for more than an hour or so during the day so if I take it down I have to put it back up but can change the style if it's not working for me.
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Inviting myself to the 30 days up party in this thread
Since i started working again i focus way less on my hair and end up throwing it up to get it or of the way and definitely noticed more growth than when i wore it down constantly
I wanna see if i can do this until June because im not gonna take pics again until then too

:heartbeat:blushing: Oh gooosh! You make me feel all warm and fuzzy hehe.
It's definitely pretty normal, I think! This milestone especially is pretty long on most people!

I am returning here after 2 years and 7 months of abscence. Last time it took me almost a year to get to APL, but i am planning some trims along the way, to even out layers, so i think i might stay here a while longer.
Here's my starting photo:
Yay!! You hit shoulder! Congrats!!

Welcome to all the new growers (hi, Stray_mind !) and congratulations to the graduates to the next stage (good job, Corvana!).
I know I'm at APL stretched, but I figured my hair is not wavy enough (just flippy) to justify calling it just because of that, so I'll give it another month and decide then. This has been a longer journey than I expected, but I'm getting closer every day and that feels comforting.
Thank you!

Do you have someone else take them for you? It looks like your towel slipped between photos, and of course the angle...
I make my husband take them, and I check after each one (easier and faster than either trying to do it myself or having him take several and go do whatever while I look and then I need to call him back). But then I can be sure they're taken straight on and with enough room for me to crop as needed!

I’m pretty sure I’m going to hit BSL before APL
I can feel my hair is only two inches or one inch for my bra strap when I reach round the back
I think you're at APL, or maybe 1/4" off tbh. But you'd need a more accurate photo to be sure!

The second picture though, judging from the adjustment things on your bra straps, the towel looks like it slid down a bit, so your hair is probably longer than the second picture. I think you're probably APL stretched, and will definitely be there by May in my opinion! Your year progress photo looks about APL to me visually in my opinion, when not comparing it to the towel. :)
Maybe try using something else than a towel for your measurements? A fabric measuring tape or something would be easier to tell if it's sliding down or on an angle maybe. The bulkiness and weight of the towel might be throwing you off. Just throwing out random suggestions :p
In january I used a sheet  It helped a little! But the best help IMO is someone else taking the photos.

I will stay here until May as it’s definihely not 100% solid APL
I don’t want to jump into the next thread early I would feel I was cheating and also making the next milestone longer
I mean what’s the point in all of this if I just jump ahead without truly 100% hitting the milestone right ?
Nothing wrong at all with staying until you're 100% sure!

Oh man I understand this! I used to grow from SL to BSL all the time, and it never seemed to take long at all! But now I'm looking and it's taking a hundred years.

My go to hairstyle the last time it was long:

Pigtails, half pulled through. Every single day! Or it was just down, or in half-up pigtails. That was it! And I absolutely ripped through it with my paddle brush multiple times per day just trying to get it to "behave". My poor hair! I'm amazed it grew so long (waist at one point), but not really surprised that I thought I had thin hair considering my treatment. I'm pretty sure I gained back 1/2" in thickness compared to years ago just from being nicer to my hair.
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
As promised I have returned with my Super Official Towel Test Photo!
http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/...8&d=1522614789
And it's there wavy to boot. I was worried I'd need to stretch my hair to "prove" it, but nope!

Aaah thank you! I'd like to chalk that up to the waves and wurls that are coming out hehe.
And with how fast your hair seems to grow, you'll be in a thread with me sooner rather than later!

I sure hope so! Unless you leave again, as soon as i arrive, hahaha!
Anyway, i am not combing/brushing my hair this week At all (only finger combing). I wonder if my texture will change in any way.
I am also keeping my hair up this month as much as i possibly can.
Gonna be sporting a tiny peacock twist today with a claw clip... I also used a tiny claw clip to clip the hair that escaped the twist. I can see the tiny baby hairs growing in at my forehead... They are light and super fine and they wurl around.
