I'm kind of tempted to make them a bit heavier, but not sure if it's a good idea because I like the way they blend in with my other front layers when it's down, so I'm going to grow a bit more while I think about it.
I tried the uneven double braids today, and I think I can make something really fun out of it as my hair gets longer. The bigger one is on the left, and I've got them joining up in the middle rather than ending separately. When it's long enough, I can join them together into one, and bring the single braid over my right shoulder, so it looks like the left one is the 'real' braid, and the right one just feeds into it. I might even be able to split the right one into two when my arms get a bit more used to the uncomfortable braiding position, and have two small braids feeding into one big one.
I loved my bangs, but my hair isn't thick enough for me to want to have them forever. I think they were a big part of why I thought my hair was super thin, but I don't know if having less full bangs would work out for me, either. I may, way later on, cut some face framing pieces or long side-swept bangs, but my glasses would probably make them awkward anyway.
And that sounds like it'd be really lovely! Plus multiple braids will help distribute some of the weight on your scalp. And you could get those really pretty braid cuffs to decorate it, or some flowers :crush: You'd probably look like a super awesome fantasy character.

I know once I reach pre-chop length, I won't have have these occasional bouts of sadness and regret over my stupid decision, only excitement for what is coming.
On the bright side, you know that you don't want your hair shorter. That little whisper of doubt or curiosity later on will be much much quieter and easier to silence now. So hopefully knowing that can help with those bouts of sadness. If you hadn't chopped, you may have had more length than you do now but you may also have been struggling with loving it as much as well.
That's how I frame it to myself when I think about how long my hair could be had I not cut it at any of the points it was very long (either almost 8 years ago when it was waist, or 5 years ago when it was BSL, or any time before or between). But had I just left it, I wouldn't have been happy with it because I'd never gone shorter than jaw length and I was super curious about it. Granted it took me a long time to fully want long hair again (I missed it a little bit in the years of pixie-dom, but it was never enough to bother for a long time), but now that I'm here I'm here on purpose. I miss some things about my short hair (it was so very cool in the summer, and so so easy to style because I'd wake up cute ), but overall when that thought pops up I can tell myself "Hey, you had short hair for ages, and by the end of it you wanted long hair again so that's what we're doing. If, after several years of actually long hair and not this awkward stage where you can do very little with it, you want to go back short again we can revisit. Now hush I've got a million threads to read on LHC." :rollin:

 Choppy bobs are very cute, but they're very not cute growing out! Sorry you've lost some length, though! But that's one less layer to deal with.

Don't think for one moment that thought hadn't crossed my mind. I write fantasy - for fun; I'm not published - and I'm totally obsessed with my characters' hair.

I love the way you put a positive spin on things. Any time I miss my short pixie, I'll now be able to remind myself I tried that, and decided to grow again.

 Congrats on getting the longest layer cut off! I grew out a short, choppy bob that was stacked in the back once. I ended up maintaining at chin until it was all one length. It took me 6 months. I have tried layers a few times in my life and I hate them. Never again.

Once I was able to put my hair up again, it became easier to forget about it. I also see how fast it's growing back and that pleases me. I had made the mistake of looking at photos of myself with longer hair yesterday and instantly felt bad. I need to avoid doing that for now.

Ah thanks! I really try to, because there's a lot going poorly for me and I'd rather look at the better things than dwell on the crappy ones. And if me trying to be positive for other people makes them feel better, that's another positive for me as well! And that helps my own personal bad stuff. But it's easy to do with some things. If I've already done the "what ifs", then I have an answer when they pop up. I've got a lot of self-doubt about a whole lot of stuff, but it's nice to a have bunch that I can just be like "well I tried that already" about!
Well you can certainly get hairstyle inspiration from here! There's even threads for fantasy hairstyles I'm sure.
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
it is the 21st of august and time for another progress photo, it doesn't look that different from last month, but compared to my may photo I can see progress.

I never noticed how blurry my previous photos were, but I guess that's alright, one can see the difference anyway :p

It looks like your hair is in much better condition too, as well as the extra length. That's fantastic for 3 months' growth.

I agree! I see tremendous improvements! Congratulations. :)

I have a lot of layers right now (it was either cut it to ear length, or cut layers to get rid of as much damage as possible) and it makes my CBL hair feel and look like chin. I absolutely despise of it, I look like Ron Weasley in the Goblet of Fire for those that have seen the movies. I don't really care much though, because 99% of it is damage-free, so there's that benefit. I see so many heads of hair on here with grown out hair that had layers though and they look incredibly good. Something to look forward to.

Wow that's a good amount of growth!! I've decided to stop doing monthly length photos because I'm sooooo lazy. I think I'll go to quarterly lol, but need to make a schedule for it! I want the first photo of the year to be on the first on January!

Ooof I know how you feel! But they'll grow out, and it's all healthy which is always nice.
And I LOL'd about Ron Weasley

Nice progress!
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Thank you, Alibran, HairPlease, Corvana, and Joyful Mystery! I don't think the condition of my hair has improved, my hair just got this habit of looking different on different days. I do think my hair likes this cleansing conditioner though, but it was expensive so I'm not sure if I'll buy it again. I will have to see how many washes one bottle is, if that number is small I'm afraid I'll have to find something else.
I've also thought about only taking a photo every 3 months, but I know from the past that it's quite good to have one from each month, at least if you are like me, and dive into threads like "post 1 year progress in here" (can't recall the name exactly). But then again, I like seeing progress and I happen to like taking these weird photos. I am a bit sad about that I move today because it would have been fun to have this months photo out at my new home, but that day was yesterday x) Maybe I should take another type of photo when I'm there.
HairPlease, I can relate to your struggles! :p I've also been in that phase several times in the past (I've just never linked it to Ron  ). Soon enough it will suddenly look nice, it's just a waiting game.
