Yay for you! Good luck growing in the new year.

I'm in that weird no mans land between shoulder and APL- and I've been having a bit of a pity party... Then I found my old flexi-8's that work perfectly with this length!
Well I think I am about ready to call APL, but I'm not going to 'graduate' officially until I can get a photo to record the event :D I have been doing an excellent job of ignoring my length and not surreptitiously checking it in mirrors after getting really frustrated with feeling like I had no growth. I was always planning on checking again in the new year, then I sort of forgot about it until I realised I was combing my hair over my shoulder (rather than at the back) - which wasn't something I had to do a month or so ago! This prompted me to check and I think I'm there. I shall hang around here a bit longer though, you are all so nice! Anyone who feels like their hair is shrinking, that they'll never get to APL or the urge to just cut - hang in there! That was totally me when I first joined this thread. I can really, really recommend the ignoring method of hair growth, if you're getting bothered by it. Sometimes the old truisms apply - a watched pot never boils! Anyway, that's more than enough from me. Looking forward to hearing how everyone's getting on...
Well, I can now hold most of my hair up in a medium ficcare for part of the day. Progress!
What I have to do is use a hair stick(or one of my double pointed knitting needles), a ficcare, and my hands. I make a ponytail with my hand, place the needle horizontally across the top, then fold my hair straight up over the needle. I then use the ficcare to clip just above the needle and below my hand, then remove said needle. It allows me to do a peacock flip instead of a peacock twist, as I still can't twist my hair up without everything in front of my ears coming out of the style.
I have a shoulder length bob. I'll grow with you!
I'm having a bratty I hate my hair and its length day today and swear I'll be in this thread forever 😩 I've been babying it for nearly 5 months now and I swear I've had not one bit of growth?! In 5 months?! Just getting annoyed with it now! Saw a friend last night that I haven't seen since September- her hair in September was just APL- last night it was BSL. She's grown that in 4 months and I haven't even managed a messily half inch I don't think.
Makes me wonder why I'm bothering, she bleached her hair a couple of months ago too and had it straightened perfectly last night. She does all that and grows from APL - BSL in 4 months. Arghhh.
Idreamlong,
I bet you will have a growth spurt soon. I haven't grown a lot since fall, either. But last spring and summer I noticed more growth. I am thinking my hair just grows more in that part of the year.
Have you tried inversion massage or oiling for growth? There are threads explaining more about those.
Also, if you are tall your body markers are further apart. And if your friend is shorter it may appear her hair grows faster. Or maybe it does grow faster. I have a friend whose hair is mid thigh......when my hair measures the same length it will be classic.....because I am that much taller.
Waves and curls will make your hair appear shorter, also.
Good luck with growing this year!
What protective hairstyles do you all do at this length, during the day and when sleeping?
Lol, friend is taller than me but her hair is naturally straight, whereas mine is so curly. I guess I could be growing and shrinkage means I'm not noticing but it doesn't even seem longer when curly if you know what I mean?
It must be growing because my roots are awful (unless the blonde is just fading instead of growing out lol!) and I don't think it's breakage as the other day I tried brushing over a white sink and if my darker layers were broken there would've been brown hairs all in the sink (there used to be LOADS before I cut & started my new hair regime!) I also can't see any splits or breakages, so who knows!
Will have to keep being patient! I plan to straighten it at the end of Feb to see whether it is shrinkage or whether it just hasn't grown an inch since Sept, lol!
