While the style didn't come out great (weird little stringy/straight ends instead of full waves), I did think to take a pic. Because it was straightened to start, it really showcases length! Sadly, the volume made me a little bummed. This is why I always end up chopping past shoulder. Even the stylist remarked about it, saying "it's weird, you have a lot of volume up on your head then it all disappears." Sigh...

Stylists can be so helpful with their random comments! /s :lala: I agree with stardust lady--I'd rather have the thickness on top. I hate how my scalp shows so badly and my hair lays flat on top of my head...
It's pretty much APL--don't give up now! :blossom:
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Sometimes stylists are really focused on the hair we Sometimes forget it's attached to someone's head so I'm pretty sure it wasn't to make her feel bad

I think it looks pretty! Light and delicate.
Thank you! I need to see the positives.

I do still have some bleach damage and I Hope you're right, especially if I can stick with nothing but small trims for a few years. I've never gotten that far without some major hormonal shift that caused a big shed or had an accidentally huge chop.

Thank you! I would definitely prefer it your way but the grass is always greener...

I do think I need to get to a good length and try for frequent trimming for a few years to see what happens. I don't have fine hair though for sure. It's very obvious when rolled between fingers.

Lol, yeah. But he definitely didn't appear to mean anything by it, was just sympathizing and agreeing. Thank you for the encouragement! Since it's blown out straight and all the waves relaxed, it does feel long even if really "small." (in a ponytail right now the volume might as well be one of those 49 cent rolls of embroidery floss. That's how puny my entire hair is while straight.)

Yeah he definitely wasn't bad-meaning. I was more sharing to say that he agreed with my assessment.
I do think I'm cursed with the shortest growth cycle possible. We know that most hairs grow about 6" per year while in the growing (anagen) phase. We also know hair lives in this stage for between 2-6 years (with some evidence of certain ethnic background trending toward the longer end of that range or more). I seriously think I'm just at the low end, 2-3 years, then hairs fall. Which would mean that before most of my hairs get to shoulder, they're already gone. It would explain why I have so much thickness on top but very little at length.
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Hopefully you can get longer over time, it just take a while longer than most to get there fingers crossed!
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Another thought is that when you first grow to a new length it is only the fastest growing and least damaged hairs that make it to that length. So if your hairs each have a variable growth rate your lengths will really thin out as you grow. But if the other hairs are able to catch up eventually then you’ll see the thickness working it’s way down, and if you maintain at a given length you’ll find your hemline gets thicker.
I used to be sure my hair was way too fine and damaged to grow really long, and then I maintained for a while and sure enough the hemline got thicker each month. It can just be slower than we’d like.
It’s easier to maintain like this when your hair is long enough to cut it yourself (it can be hard to find a stylist who takes “just half an inch off” literally), but you’re almost there!

I'll be with you on the bleach and growth journey too I won't bleach myself I'll get someone else to do it. If you get scalp bleach I recommend getting them to use cream instead of powder bleach it's soooo much better on your scalp

Yeah, I’ve been going to a salon to get my hair highlighted now! I’ll have to ask about the bleach she uses!! :o when I used to bleach my hair myself I always used powder oops 0_0;; it was really harsh
But my next hair appointment is in March so I’m hoping to see a lot of growth by then :o
