Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I had the horrible flipies/curls until I got slightly past collar bone, doesn't help I have an old perm that likes to show itself on occasion. To be honest I didn't mind the triangle/fluff aspect so much- it made my hair appear thicker than it really was, and since it wasn't long enough to even put in a pony, without slipping out, unless it was at least collar, it was okay.
I have some old layers growing out from the perm from collar bone down- I found they tangles much worse with fine hair, plus make my ends so thin looking.
So apparently I mis-measured my APL- it's actually 20" instead of 21", I must have been tilting my head forward. I even had the hubby help me and make sure I was keeping my head level. I couldn't believe that it was so little! Yeah for being petite with small head and high busted/waisted. No wonder I have been having extreme trouble with styles others can do at APL. BSL is 4" away at 24", and Waist is 28", and my original hip measurement was at my widest hip I use for sewing purposes, (which is just below my butt crack) but my hip bone is actually at 32.5", TBL is 34", BCL is 36", and Classic is 44". My goal is somewhere around TBL/BCL.
I noticed a few days ago I was about a half inch past APL, but going to wait to call it until I take my monthly pic in a week.
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Triangle head. My SO is dealing with that right now, and I personally like it. It's almost cute. To each their own I suppose.
When I was at "Flip Length" there were times I swore my ends flipped up to tickle my earlobes. Worst thing since moldy bread.
I didn't look at my hair for about 5 days this week out of serious frustration combating curls (I don't like them on me, I am not Dave Mustaine or any of those people nor do I want to be :p), I found this Moroccan oil thing that seems to dry it to more of a 1c/2a look. If I blew it dry I think I could get solid 1c.
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Hello!
I am kind of newish here - I can't remember when I originally registered, but I haven't been here in ages.
I have been trying to grow my hair out since January this year. I had gotten it cut to chin length, and I think it grew 2-3 inches in 8 months!!! So slow!! In June, I decided to start wearing my hair natural (I'd straightened it my whole life). Focusing on hair health and getting my curls back has made it easier to forget about this annoying length - shoulder is wear I usually get bored and chop.
I think my hair is growing a bit faster these days...I tried the inversion method last night, and I only made it one minute because it felt like my eyeballs were bulging out of my head. I try to remember to take my hair, skin and nails vitamins every day and head massages.
I haven't measured my hair since it's wavy and hard to get anything accurate. I would guess I'm about 4 inches away from APL when dry.
And...I also ordered 2 Ficcare clips yesterday! So excited for those to come!! (My first real hair toys.)
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I am at flip lengths at the moment, and it's so annoying.
I don't want to straighten my hair, so it just looks weird. But in a few months it will stay straight. Can't wait! :D
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Nice to see the thread being so active; welcome to the new comers!
I don't personally think the stretch between shoulder and APL to be unflattering or ugly, but it often does seem to last a long time and it's difficult to see progress. Interestingly I have noticed that those who have fast hair growth are often the ones lamenting (and starting threads about) how long it takes, lol.
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Lol, it seems the worst to me I guess because since I joined it is my first goal marker. I was already at or just past collarbone. APL is about 24" for me. I think I have an inch and a half to go. So I hope by January.
Welcome and healthy growing to new people.

Now that is a really good idea; I'm definitely going to try that! Thank you : ) I know what you mean about products, they never seem to add enough to make up for the weird crunchy texture...
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
My friend put a sock bun in my hair, and it looks so cool, and like I have waaaaaay more have than I actually have! I love it! I am almost at APL and have some layers, so a sock bun might actually work for some of you, too. It is nice to have something new to do with my hair!
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I did the towel test - getting really close :) Depending on how straight I stand. I have tendency to hunch so most of the photos I took show only the tips touching the towel. I think I will graduate from this thread next month
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Poli, yay! I am happy for you. Every time someone else graduates it encourages me.....one day it will be me, lol.
