Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Yes, I was wrong because I forgot that the hair is always leaning towards body, and the back isn't 100% straight. That's where I lost that 1cm. I can't believe I didn't think about that.
Now I'm afraid to check where my BSL and WL are, when leaning the tape towards my back instead of letting it loose in the air.

It sure isn't easy it took me like an hour to measure almost all my milestones, having someone to help you will cut down time

I think I've shared this picture in this thread before, I'm a visual learner so this better exemplifies what I mean by NL and SL

The blue line is where I call it neck length (as in "bottom of neck") and the red line where I call shoulder. My collarbone is pretty much at level with that line. I understand a lot of people call it shoulder once it hits the blue line.
Anatomically, I would say NL is at your C7 vertebrae (if you look down and touch your neck, the most prominent bones are c6 and c7) and SL where the deltoid starts.
I think Neck Length works better if you have curly hair and don't use chin length as a marker. Since my hair is heavily layered due to growing out my buzzcut it'd be weird to use chin length as a milestore, as once my nape hair is barely two cm long it'd be chin length but if I were to wait until my front layers reached my chin the back layers would be already SL.
Using my own pictures left would be NL and right SL.

Thank-you for the welcome, CuteCrow.
Your photos with the blue and red line are where I would call neck and shoulder, also. We have a similar curl pattern it seems, although you would not think so in my previous length photo. Once I begin to manipulate my hair with braids and updos, the curl loosens considerably and waves set in. As we have discussed in another thread, shrinkage plays a very real, visual role in our length.

I agree with CuteCrow's lines. I also have sloped or rounded shoulders so reaching NL came quite quick after CL, while for SL I had to wait a bit. While people with rectangular shoulders can call NL and SL at the same time I guess.
Well, shoulder length or even a bit more is a "for sure" then. APL would be great, but I am thinking there is a bit to go, still. APL has eluded me for some time, I am now more than confident that I will actually get there.
Thanks for the input, all. I really appreciate your thoughts. :blossom:

I cannot measure myself, someone has to help me. My arms just won't co-operate and the tape measure gets twisted. Or, it's my lack of co-ordination. Measuring always got me in trouble in my past attempts to get to APL. I discourage easily. From here on I think visual markers will be the way to go, for me. :)
Besides, I love looking at everyone's hair/length photos, it's fun. :p
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
CuteCrow, thanks for the pictures, as a visual person myself it really helps. c: So neck length is kind of like when neck is no longer visible, that makes sense. My trapezius is not as developed so the markers look a bit different, kind of closer to what NicoleLionne described. So I think, if I didn't skip over NL, I'd call it at the same time as SL, just like Agava said (here's my photo with markers). Interesting!
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I've done new measuring as correct as possible, and it's: APL 53cm, BSL 64cm and WL 74cm. And I made photo of my NL which is almost unrecognisable, not because it's on the same level with SL but because it's kind of too high, lol
(I'll post the photos later)
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I forgo to scale the photos, so it's better like this:
The first photo shows how my NL is high and how SL is not even close to it.
Here's how my NL is almost at the CL level. If my neck was shorter, and my face longer, my CL would come after NL. Lol
And on the third photo that's my CBL ( the same as SL level), but I'm going to call CBL when my layers from behind touch the collarbone.
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Your shoulders and neck look a lot more like mine ynne :). My shoulders are a bit more rectangular (side-effect of boxing and crossfit).
I should really try to measure all the milestones again. I'll ask the boyfriend to help out when it's time for the monthly check-in. If I remember correctly SL was around 42-43cm, CBL at 50 cm and APL somewhere around 60 cm. (I'm 175cm tall).

Mine are pretty off lol but a rough estimate is better than none I've measured that I should be at knee in 9 years from now if my half an inch growth keeps going

I know what you mean, I did measure recently to officially join this thread. Getting to 20 inches will be a mini-milestone, so I will surely have to measure again. So much for plans!
Knee is quite the goal, bat. You will get there, yes you will. :agree: We must stay positive.
