Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Ugggggh I really like you guys, I do, but I just WANT TO BE AT APL SO BADLY. The worst part is I'm definitely there when my hair is stretched but my curly ends do this thing where they all pull a 180 and point back up again so I've still got an inch to go when curly. Should I wait? Should I just call it APL and move on? Heeeellllpppp.
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
well, I was only around an inch and a half away from being APL, but tonight I cut it all the way up to above my shoulders. It was chemically damaged, and I really just was tired of it and needed a change. So it looks like I'll be here for a lot longer :p

It's up to you and how you measure your hair. I'm in the same boat - my hair passes APL when straightened but curly it looks like it has a little bit to go. I'm choosing to stay in this thread until it passes APL natural, it will only be a couple more months and it feels like more of an official milestone to me.
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
guys I just bought some spin pins!!
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
ooooooh spin pins. I haven't tried those yet.
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Hey I think this is my first time popping in this thread :)
After a super short pixie end of March 2012, I am finally in the shoulder-to-APL Camp!
I do feel like I've been the same length forever now and get discouraged and want to chop, but just a couple years ago I had waist length hair and I will get that back again!
Right now from hairline down to back measurement is 18", I did the towel trick and my husband said APL looks like 21.5" so I'm about 6-8 months away. My hair grows slow, on average 1/3 inch a month, I did get half inch a month over the summer, that was nice.
I'll try to start doing pics of my progress along with measurements to keep me motivated!
I might do a trim next month but then I think I will go No Trims in 2014, my hair is almost long enough for S&D if necessary, but I don't normally get splits until after APL, of course that was always with heat use; maybe now since i don't use heat I won't have crazy bad splits like I used to.
Ok I'm rambling! Happy Growing :D
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I just moved, had a couple of crazy days with no sleep, working nights, moving, irregular eating and lots of gymnastics. Now I finally have time to wash my hair, it turns out that i forgot my shampoo and conditioner at my parents-in-law! I guess stretching washes is a good thing, but I used loooooads of hairspray yesterday so I could look ok as I went out to eat (no food in new flat yet:P).
Anyway, I bought perfume oils a while ago and they arrived yesterday! They're not essential oils, so I'm kinda wondering if it's safe to put them in my conditioner anyway? I bought two and on one of the bottle it says that it can irritate skin and eyes. The other one smells like coffee, vanilla and cocoa and I want to smell like Bailey's!
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Hello girls!
I'd like to join in on this journey with you.
My hair grew past shoulder length and collar bone length, but it's still not quite at APL.
It's driving me crazy! I'm so close! - that being said, this is the longest my hair has been like EVER and it's making me happy. :)
We're gonna make it! Happy growing! :cheer:
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Hello all newbies in this thread, happy growing! Today i tried to "measure" my three month worth of roots with my fingers and add that lenght to the parts where there is still dyed part and i figured out that i'll be at apl in 6 months ( i need about 2 to 3 inches of growing)... Sooo long to waiiit. But i'm not gonna trim untill summer, so maybe, just maybe, i'll get there a bit faster.. I hope so :)
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
A few years ago, I posted a lot in the "Shorties" thread because I was just starting to grow out a pixie cut! I got to the point where I couldn't bear to be here because well, it was SO LONG in the future before my hair would be anything but very short, so I went away for awhile. I'm back and I'm about at collarbone length right now! So I'm just below shoulder length, getting toward APL! I have very fine hair on the thinner side of average. I use CO only (Suave conditioners) and it's great because it prevents the tangles that fine hair is so famous for AND prevents static in the winter and makes my hair super soft. Love it. I do use heat on it occasionally in the form of either curling iron or flat iron. But I try not to blow dry it hardly ever. Aside from that, no muss, no fuss. I love that it's long enough to do all kinds of things -- braids, ponytails, buns, etc.
