Don't know. Don't have the new design. It has ball bristles, whereas the older model had just straight pins (awesome). If this ever goes kaput, I'll just stick to my TT. But right now I am using my TT exclusively, have been for the last decade. :)

Arctic, it's good to hear you love that brush so much!
So I suppose you got Big rectangular brush with baseball pins, arctic? I never even looked at the base ball pins, but then again for my hair type the long pins are better, I suppose.
I know the tek brushes are very nice. Had them in my hands a couple of times, but I also know, that there are at least two German makers, that make basically the same brush, but without the ball ends. One is Faller, the other is Keller and they are both around 10 €. The TBS Brush is not any good at the moment, but lapushka, for you it sould not be too difficult to get your hands on German brushes, in case the old TBS Brush won't make it any more.
In fact this thread made me decide today, to gift some Faller Brushes to two girlfriends.
Note: The good model from Keller is a very dark wood oval brush. From Faller every brush I had in my hands looked good so far.
Am I right in buying the bigger brush for the friend with a lot of hair and the smaller brush for the friend with few fine hair? Or would both rather need the bigger brush?
Yay I'm glad you like the Tek brush, Arctic!
I love my Widu! Best wooden brush I've used and is the gentlest on my hair.
Far superior to my Bass wooden brush and Body shop wooden brush. That body shop one is complete garbage (the newest model with the ball tips). It was so rough on my hair I couldn't even brush through one section. And it would pull really bad even on completely detangled hair.
Widu/Tek all the way :)
Arctic, I use a little shampoo and rub it on the bristles, dunk it in a sink of warm water, then I use my long bristled rubber cleaning brush (for gentle scrubbing) and rub it into the Widu bristles for a while. Then I rinse my Widu and check for residue.
Once I am satisfied, I dry the wood with a towel, then set it bristle side down on another towel to dry. Once dry, I lightly oil the handle somewhat heavily and the bristles lightly, since they will get sebum on them soon enough.
I have also been known to take a tooth floss (like the GUM brand) and "floss" the problem bristles.
I"ve had a Widu for about 5 or 6 years. It's not my main brush (that's a Mason Pearson), but it does get used a couple of times a week probably. I have this one:https://www.widu.com/product/34594
I really like it, and it's still practically like new even though I used it all the time when I first got it. It's very gentle and does a good job with any tangles I might have missed with the comb. It doesn't give as smooth or polished a look as the MP, which is why I use it more often.
I also purchased the colored small purse brush a couple of years ago - and I wasn't at all happy with it. It has a couple of rough places and catches my hair quite badly.
A-ha, another rectangular paddle brush user! How do you like the long pins? Are you in the ii or iii range?
I was torn between the normal pin length, which has slightly rounded base of the pin, and the long pins which are completely straight. I was "scared" the long pins would be over kill to my not very thick hair, so I finally decided to go with the normal length pins version.
I love the longer pins. My hair is ii thickness. I don't know what you mean about the base of the pin. All the brushes on the WIDU site are straight base as far as I can see.
I also have an all boar bristle Mason Pearson, but I like the WIDU better and use it every day.
Bought a Widu brush a couple of days ago because of this thread (enablers!), delivered today. I've been using a Denman D5 for years. I'd had the same one for probably a decade before the rubber wore out, just replaced it last year with another. The Widu is so much gentler. No static at all, unlike the Denman which would go crazy with static. The wood is beautiful too. Definitely worth the money, I paid about $35 or so on Amazon. I want to stay home and just brush my hair all day.
If they're the same, why are the TEK ones so much cheaper than the WIDU ones??
I'm assuming because Widu brushes are imported from Italy, and Tek brushes are sold straight from the source? You're paying higher prices for Widu to account for the cost of importing them from overseas.
Lot of posts I need to get back to later!
You know I have to admit I am not sure they are the same company. I saw it being mentioned by several people over internet, but I couldn't find any confirmation of trustworthy kind. But the products look almost identical, both hand made in italy of same materials, both very high quality and have rave reviews. I have not personally seen and held Widus, though, only seen photos. Widu is not sold in Europe (to my knowledge), and Tek isn't sold in North America (to my knowledge).
Some even said that Tek would actually be called "Tek by Widu" but I only got hits from ebay stores with that search phrase, and it says no such thing on my brush or it's package - only TEK.
It is possible the companies are not the same, but they do have such identical products (the best I can see and from what I have read) I'd say they are comparable even still.
