Information about swapping, selling and advertising on TLHC
Please remember that The Long Hair Community is a strictly non-commercial site. That means you may not use any part of the forums, including the private messaging system, for conducting business, except as outlined below.
You may use the swap board to sell or swap hair-related items:- that you've outgrown
- that didn't work for you
- that you don't need anymore
You may not:- sell or swap items outside the swap board
- sell or swap items not related to hair
- purchase "extras" to sell them on the swap board (One example: Buying/swapping for an item with the intent to put it right back up for swap/sale)
- organize group orders
- sell items you made using someone else's copyrighted pattern/design on TLHC - that's illegal and we won't allow it
- post pictures of your wares outside the swap board - this includes the TLHC album section
- post links to items using personal referral codes that give you bonuses or discounts on a website when other people use the code
Swappers who change their mind about swapping their item(s) or otherwise need to edit their sales posts may do so at will. These posts are exempt from the editing rule.
Please remember that selling and swapping are at your own risk. If a swap/sale does not turn out as expected, please contact your swap-partner via PM or email and try to solve the problem directly. The swap board is not the place to auction your items.

Additional information applying to vendors
Vendors may:- add a link of your shop to our list of hair-toy links
- include one link to your store or auctions in your profile
- answer direct questions from other members about your products. Answer the question, but donīt use it as an opportunity to enable.
- mention your shop in a blog-post once, after that all advertising must be limited to the links in the vendor list and your profile.
- place an ad on LHC via Google Ads if you want more advertising. To do this, click the link at the top of each page that says "Advertise on this site" and apply directly to Google.
Vendors may not:- advertise for your shop in your signature - this means no links, logos, items etc. serving advertising purposes
- sell items you made for sale - no shop leftovers, discounted B-quality or trial versions
- post pictures of your wares - this includes the TLHC album section
- offer to make items on a custom basis - no hints at it either
- contact users via the forum to talk about your products
- continually mention your own products or business/website
- start threads that serve as nothing but advertising for yourself - including threads in the guise of soliciting feedback on your designs
- ask, suggest or otherwise cajole your customers, friends or relatives to start advertising for you
- send LHC members free or discounted items to make them praise your products on the boards
- "buy back" products you made from the swap board
Keep in mind the spirit of the rules when deciding whether to sell/swap/post. The moderation team reserves the right to delete anything we think has a commercial agenda. Rather than argue publicly over a deletion, please PM a mod for clarification. We are happy to explain our stance. If in doubt, please don't hesitate to contact the Mod Team before posting something.
Notice concerning Paypal.
There have been a number of sales here where sellers have asked buyers to mark money to be transferred as a "gift" or else to pay additional to cover Paypal's fees. This is concerning because it is in violation of Paypal's official policy.
It is our recommendation that sellers take Paypal fees into account and that buyers purchase things via Paypal as "goods or services" rather than as a gift to keep them in compliance with Paypal's rules.

The rule,
PayPal User Agreement 4.1, includes a warning that the ability to receive gift payments will be revoked.
There is no protection of any kind for the buyer OR the seller when this option is used.
2. Asking a buyer to pay the fees as a way to circumvent this rule is fishy and can be read as violating PayPal's User Agreement.
Buyers are not supposed to pay sellers' fees. This does not mean that you cannot factor fees in to your selling price; the cost of making an item available for sale is always part of the consideration. If you want to offer an item at the price you originally paid for it, you will have to swallow the loss.
ETA: Paypal has a quick synopsis of its fees here, for the curious. It's worth noting that the fees are increased when there's a currency change, so do take that into account when you're selling or buying internationally.

Bumping this because the moderators have made some updates to the rules recently. No big changes, but it's worth giving it a read-through to make sure you're familiar with everything.
