Re: Do you swim in pools?
For years I haven't been in a situation where I would have to choose to swim in a pool or not, but if I was, I would probably swim, but douse my hair in coconut oil a good few hours before that, then have it braided for the duration of the pool activities.
Re: Do you swim in pools?
I've been an avid swimmer all my life. Fortunately, for me, I was born & raised in "The Land of 10,000 Lakes" so I do not swim in chlorinated pools :)
But should I ever wish to, there are some really great tips in this thread on protecting hair! Thanks everyone!
Our lakes may be frozen solid 4-or-more months out of the year but when they are thawed, their water is so wonderful to my hair... So wonderful... Sometimes I wonder if it's not even water at all, but unicorn tears ;)

I haven't in a long time but plan to soon - when I do I plan on saturating damp hair with conditioner and bunning, then topping off with a swim cap :)
Re: Do you swim in pools?
I'm very happy to see that so many of you go to the pool! I used to go to the pool very often (2-3 times a week) to exercise, but it's some years ago now.. and now I've become a little "afraid" of the chlorine because of my hair.. but I wanna start swimming again and this gives me extra courage!
When I swim, I usually 1) soak my hair beforehand (it's obligatory where I live), 2) wear a swimming cap, 3) use an "anti-chlorine shampoo" afterwards
Re: Do you swim in pools?
Yes, I swim maybe once a week. I add coconut oil when I braid my hair, wet it in a shower, and wear a swimming cap. After swimming, I wash my hair once or twice and use some nice conditioner. I should probably use clarifying shampoo and hair mask rather than normal shampoo and conditioner... And after all, I add some leave-in conditioner and oil, and let my hair air dry if possible. I haven't noticed any damage to my hair. Maybe I don't swim that often.
Re: Do you swim in pools?
I haven't in a while, but considering doing laps again. Current plan is a good thorough soak, oil or coney conditioners, and then a braid.
