Yes, next time, leave it alone, though, not even finger detangling!
Re: The official hair typing thread
Heh, we need some sort of pinned post at the top of the pages just of the hairtyping thread with the instructions! (I doubt a thread-specific banner would even be possible though, alas.)

Yep, handling can definitely pull texture out! Fingercombing certainly does. I will be interested to see how it turns out untouched :D

I'm still too short to do a meaningful hair typing check, but I did want to clarify how this should be done. Would you detangle the hair while in the shower under running water and then not even squeeze the hair out with a towel? Or can you do a little bit of handling with a towel or straight-out-of-the-shower finger detangling but nothing after the first minute or two of air drying? It seems like how you towel-dry your hair could make a big difference too.....

What you do before you put shampoo and (maybe) conditioner in the hair, is no problem. It's after it's been washed, maybe conditioned that it matters and that you can't detangle and need to touch it the least possible. So no detangling with conditioner!!! Just wash it, wring/squeegee it out, put your towel on. Let sit; take it out the towel, shake it out (maybe) and leave it to dry on its own.
Well, that's what I did. I think my signature picture = a typing one.
Re: The official hair typing thread
The way I understand it is you can't do anything to it once you've rinsed out the conditioner and squeezed the water out, other than wrap it in a towel (but not in a way that would affect the texture - so no plopping, no rubbing, literally just wrap the towel around the length). Detangling with conditioner to me would be fine because you're going to load up the hair with water again when you rinse it out

Yes, but that can alter your texture... because you're smoothing it out.
Anyway, that's a mere detail, right? You just have to wing it a bit. ;) As long as you do the general outline, I'm sure it's fine!

This was my understanding too, because the hair will be thoroughly wet again to wash out the conditioner.
I’ve just checked the hair typing guide and that’s what it says - any detangling during the wash is fine

Re: The official hair typing thread
I discovered that if I wrap hair in a towel after wash, it changes the texture considerably. If I only lightly squeeze off excess water with towel and then let it air dry, hair dries much wurlier than it would if I wrapped it in a towel.

I could have never imagined this! I always always put it in a turban towel.
Re: The official hair typing thread
I’m with Tecla on this one - I haven’t twisted my hair in a towel for years. For my typing I just squished the excess water out with a microfibre cloth and left it air dry. These days, I mostly plop if I want it out of the way before letting it dry.
In the end, I think it’s okay whichever you choose - typing is about dealing with the hair you have now, which means shampoo routine, towelling and length.
