Re: self made hairtoys thread
I made some more with skewers and wires. the wood just kept wanting to float before it dries but the the wire ones were successful, although in the green spare one you can see the wire.

I think I am going to see f I can make some with a wooden tine, like this

Re: self made hairtoys thread
Yes, I've had success casting resin onto wooden items. I noticed you were using some of the purple silicone putty in your molds, two other materials that work well for use-single molds are blue tape and milk cartons. The red wax from cheese can also be used for small dams. I cast a resin top for a "magic staff" costume prop using milk carton pieces held in place with hot glue and blue tape, which worked out reasonably well, LOL.
If you are making a stick and want a short section of resin for a topper, you can wrap the top of your stick in blue tape, creating a tube into which the resin can be poured. Or lay the base of a fork on a flat surface on top of a layer of blue tape and fold it up to create sides. Be careful with corners and seams as the resin will escape if it can. Red wax is great for blocking those spots up, but wax by itself will melt if used alone when exposed to the heat of the curing resin.
You can also use that silicone putty to mold tops. You can either cast the tops and then attach them to the wood after they are fully cured, or you can balance your wood in contact with the wet resin while it cures, but it can be tricky to keep the wood straight. Here is an example from a gift swap a while back.

Thank you Neko, I am going to try some toppers on wood bottoms
Re: self made hairtoys thread
Couple of days ago I ran across some small plastic icicles i had bought for my Christmas tree but I rejected them.
I thought what if I used this to stiffen the bottoms of thee resin sticks? success. I wore this one all day yesterday and it was fine.

Neat! I've picked up a few clear acrylic rods of various diameters from a model railway hobby shop. You might have fun playing with those too as inserts or tines on forks.

I am very pleased with this stick. I have been wearing it for hours and it is holding like it should.
Even though you can't see the sparkles very well I am enjoying them.

I don't have any pictures to share, I just wanted to say that I'm incredibly impressed with the talent in this thread! Beautiful work!
Re: self made hairtoys thread
I am still experimenting with the resin in molds. I purchased some drink stirrers 6 inches long like the one at the bottom of the picture.
each of these has one inside. I have not done finish work on couple of these but the ones I have finished seem to hold just fine.
They are much stiffer.

Here are three more and probably some of the last ones. These are stiffened with the stir sticks

My daughter came home with a treasure haul of vintage jewelry. Lots of cameos, pearls etc. I found this and
attached it to a clear acrylic stick I had cut from sheet acrylic. I like extra thick sticks...holds the thin hair better.
