I bet you've been doing it right. Many people use some sort of chant as a memory jogger when they braid, and they tend to be very personal. What I mean is, that 99,9% of the times I read someone elses memory joggers they make absolutely no sense to me. I think everyone needs to make one that makes sense to them, how their brain is wired.
As a side note, the memory jogger above did not make sense to me at all
Re: Hairstyles Gone Rogue
Middle over didn't make sense to me either. My reminder is french braids, side lock go over middle lock, dutch braids, side lock goes under middle lock. So I can't have snything about locks gove over in my dutch braids, that will mess me up for sure XD
Re: Hairstyles Gone Rogue
I'm laughing so hard right now because in dealing with many people over a lifetime I totally get that everyone's brain works differently and that frustrates the heck out of my mom--that she never understood my dad and he and I have similarly firing neurons. Poor mom. Ah, well--at least Daddy and I understand one another.
I don't know where I got middle over; someone or a book taught it to me. When I do rope braids I don't need a chant but I sometimes say "twist, cross; twist, cross..." because it's fun.
Re: Hairstyles Gone Rogue
Oh lord, mother of all spelling errors in that last post there. Sorry about that.
Re: Hairstyles Gone Rogue
Well, actually, the middle going over left/right should be the same as left/right going under the middle, just described differently
Re: Hairstyles Gone Rogue
I know, but I can't describe it to myself like that, since hair goinger over = french braid for me. And I still strugle sticking to one language while braiding; goodness knows how many french braids I've turned into dutch braids halfway down XD

I used to do that all the time.
Re: Hairstyles Gone Rogue
Oh, so french braiding needs a chant in French, and Dutch braiding - in Dutch? :wigtongue:
Re: Hairstyles Gone Rogue
I chant in Finnish with all braid "nationalities" :D I'm a rebel like that!
Re: Hairstyles Gone Rogue
So I've tried, yet again, to do a nautilus bun. It actually, miraculously, stayed up this time.... shame it looks nothing like a nautilus. :P
