Isn't it lovely feeling how ones hair can feel when clarifying first time in a long time? When you do it more often the magical change in hair texture doesn't happen so dramatically, although I still love my clarifying shampoo and use it when I notice the first signs of build-up.
What a great idea!!! I have at times made the twist diagonal, but never thought of completely sideways. It is like that right now and I love it. So glad to have brainy people on here. This the very reason I cut my hair years ago......I didn't have any ideas about how to wear it. I wore it mostly down and once in a while in a bun or sometimes pigtails. I didn't know how to French braid or twist or anything. And pigtails were starting to look babyish on me,lol.
Thanks so much Arctic!
:applause:cheer::joy:
Oh, yes the clarifying is the bomb...I can't believe the difference. And I don't think I ever clarified before....I know...it is very sad how little I knew about hair care.

Wonderful to hear it worked!!! Thanks for telling me! :cheer: I'm always happy to help!
I just got an idea from your own post, too: I've never tried diagonal french twist myself :D This is going to my to be tried list for sure, so thank You!
I hear you on pigtails, I haven't been comfortable wearing them either anymore.
Don't feel bad about not knowing much hair stuff previously. I think most of our members haven't learned about clarifying before LHC, and many many only have few hairstyles they can make. Besides in the grand scheme of things, hair stuff is after all quite superficial and non-important, and I think it's actually great if women use their brains on more important things than looks, you know :) So not knowing hair stuff can be seen a GOOD thing! :D
ETA: I'm not, ofcourse bashing us LHCers :D

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Damn, I thought I was super close to APL but the I just measured myself and it seems Im not. I felt like my hair was longer! :/ boooooo

Arctic this is probably the lamest reply on the LHC......but....I workout.
:cloud9: kinda happy someone noticed.

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I found a white dot!!! There may be more but due to the short length I cannot see much of the ends in the back.
-
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Forgive my ignorance but what is a 'white dot'?

It is caused by damage. With mine if there is a dot a little way up from the end I can pull and the hair will break right off. I remember way back having them and split hairs.

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
It's time for me to move on.. I thought I would make APL in the summer and I sure did.
I try not to check my length too often, so I'm solidly there.
Just to amuse and encourage you all, I added the first length shot I ever took, around the time I joined (yes, I had hearts on my mirror).
It's been near enough 10 months of growth, with a few microtrims in between.

The waves are from the bun I was wearing. But I like how the quality of my hair improved visably. It feels much better too!
See you all in the next thread and happy growing!

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Congrats!!! I'll be joining you in a month or 2 :)

Congrats 77!

I gave myself face framing layers today (added some more and trimmed back the excisting ones). Another step towards the V-shaped hemline taken.

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Today is my measuring day......I am so bad at this measuring thing! So I am 1 3/4" to 2" from APL. So I think by Christmas to New Year's I will reach APL. With no complications BSL by next summer sometime.
I think it is too easy for the tape measure or the shirt to move while measuring. After BSL I will just use body markers and I hope and believe that will be easier.
But the growth is steady....even tho reaching APL seems like forever.

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I've not updates in ages. Mostly because I've been trying to 'calm' my obsession with getting my hair to grow faster and so ended up avoiding taking photos. Just go through the motions and try forget about it.
Anyhow, so late July I took a pic and suddenly it looks like I've reached AND PASSED APL! The pic on the left shows the apl towel line, the one on the right just for kics. I'm sorry for the ultra saturated pic on the left. I kind of forgot dark hair won't show on a dark towel (talk about a bright spark moment!)
Have I officially reached APL?

It looks good to me.....yay for you!

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Totally APL! Congratulations!!!
I feel like I have reached a stall. I haven't seen much outgrowth (I usually do by now). Hopefully it's my imagination. I'm not gonna check till Christmas. ;)
-
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I checked again today when dry, and I still think I am about an inch or so away. I might wait till Christmas to re-check. I'm tired of being disappointed! HAHA

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I was dusting APL- But did a micro trim- so not quite
The ribbon slipped down a tiny bit- But very very soon!

Yay! I've graduated :D Happy growing to all!

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
turtlelover, that's basically what I did. I kept getting so disappointed when I took my monthly length photos and then it's way shorter than I thought it would be. So I just banned taking photos for two or so months and voila! Actual "results"! :)

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Hi, I'd like to join y'all. For some crazy reason, I cut my BSL length hair to shoulder length. Sigh, I never learn  Anyway, onto the SL to APL journey and beyond! :)
I have about 3" to 3.5" to APL. Looking at your posts gives me inspiration. Happy growing!

Hi, wellmichelle! I can see your image, and your hair looks fantastic and healthy! I think I'll be joining this thread, too. I cut my hair to a bob in May, but I miss being able to put it up, so I'm back! :) It's at 16.5 inches right now, right around shoulder length, so I'll be a part of this great group for a while yet. Hi, everyone! (Need to update my siggy when I get a chance!)

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
It's growing again. I can't believe it.
Well, a few deep treatments and it's feeling like hair, which is always good.
Definitely dry apl by Christmas.
-
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Welcome, Inchingalong and wellmichelle. I am about two inches from APL and I'm so hoping to make it by Christmas/New Year. It seems like forever but I only joined in May, lol. It is so much fun talking to everyone about hair. Good luck to both of you and and happy growing.

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Welcome to everyone!
I have taken some new photos for my Hairstyles fro Shoulder Lenght Hair project (in my blog), I'll just need to edit them before posting. I wonder if I ever get a feeling the project is finished :D So far I feels is nowhere near it, lol, I just haven't had time/energy/motivation to work on it.
I have also recorded my very first hair videos, but the editing is a bear so I'm not sure when I get it done. Might be easier to make a brand new, shorter video and go from there.
-
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Oh you have such good instructions, Arctic, I will love seeing a video from you!

Thank you, vpatt and Arctic! vpatt, you'll be at APL so soon! Love your signature picture and scripture. :) And Arctic, I have bookmarked your blog so I can learn some hairstyles from you. Thank you for creating such a great resource.

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I feel like once I totally hit APL/BSL the growing out process will speed up!!

Inching Along, thank you!
LauraAlaina, I'm not sure it will speed up, but I think I understand how you feel. At that point we can begin to 'feel' more like longhairs, lol.

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
SL to APL is the worst! It is always where I begin to really itch for a haircut, hence why I have yet to ever make it to BSL. I would have already been at APL if I hadn't given into a 3" trim months back and here I am feeling it again. This past weekend I even walked the few miles to the salon, but didn't go in (went to the coffee shop across the street instead) Glad that I chickened out, but it was soooo close!
-
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Anything above APL is the hardest for me = although getting past shoulder (my hair FLIPS horribly) is the worst. I still have some really weird flips sometimes, bah.
Having chopped twice during my time here, once from waist and this last time from hip (medical reasons, causing HUGE sheds where I lost about 40 percent of my hair by the dermatologists estimate), I can say that once I get past BSL I totally quit worrying about length. APL is nice - but BSL allows my slippery hair to work better with some of my heavier toys. I wish I had chopped to APL and not right above shoulder, but at the time i was extremely discouraged and not planning on growing it back out.

applecinn, I agree. I always seem to give up when I am between shoulder and APL and get my hair cut into a bob. But this time, this time, I am DETERMINED to make APL and then BSL. Good for you for not going into that salon!
rags, I hope you and your hair are doing better now! It's great to hear you're growing your hair out again. I identify with you: I've had major shedding due to health and stress over about 7 or 8 years, but it has slowed down, thank God.

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Yes, close to APL is an easy time to give up for SURE! I looked at some pictures from like 6 months ago, and my hair really DID look much better on my face just past shoulder than it does just bordering APL. The layers have grown out in a way that isn't the most flattering, and it looks kind of flat on top and poofy on the sides. But, if I give in and trim them now, I will just regret it later since I really want blunt cut hair once it gets to BSL, aside from maybe a little bit of face framing right in front. There is really no way to enjoy this stage for me, so I think it is time to just put my hair up and forget about it for awhile! HAHA

This is exactly where I am too and the same decision I made. Thinking back now, the only way I got through this stage last time was to put it up and forget about it. I even stayed away from mirrors for a time (while it was down) I am so with you on this :)
-
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I am thinking I won't even bother trimming until BSL, and then I will just trim the layers out slowly at that point. Trimming just seems to prolong the agony of being too long to have "shape" but too short to have the weight necessary to de-poof it where it gets wide! Once it gets to BSL, the weight tames it down and it flows more nicely.
-
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I measured! I have grown about an inch! I can really feel the improvement in up-do-ability, sticks and even my clunky diy fork stay in for a decent while. I can do several kinds of messy twists now!
-
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Yes I feel like once we are all at APL we'll feel "longish" and won't feel the need to cut! At this point my past chemical damage really starts showing and I always want to cut my hair!! ahhhhh no!!
