cones and coconut oil question
Hi there!! Ok I left a post in the newbe section but I am not sure how many responses I will get in there. Today I am getting my coconut oil and I am wondering if I will need to clarify my hair in order for the oil to penitrate?? Last week I did a clarifying and my hair was extremely dry and brittle afterwards, my hair was recently destroyed. I have cut alot of layers in my hair and have been with help of LHC treating and restoring my hair. The hair is still pretty weak in a few areas. It took a few days of leaving Africas Best in my hair (wet look) and yesterday i did wash and condition my hair with pantene. If I only wash and conditioned one time with the cones since my clarify is there still too much cone build up for the coconut oil to seep into my hair?? Thank you guys so much, you are a blessing, and I am excited to see the future of my hair through all of the information in this site!!!
Re: cones and coconut oil question
I am still sort of new, but I think you are okay...... one wash wouldn't really create buildup (or not a lot). When I first started oiling, I was still using cones too and I felt like I got results......
Re: cones and coconut oil question
I use coconut oil every night on my hair and I rarely clarify. And I use several styling products every day. IME, coconut oil penetrates very well.
Re: cones and coconut oil question
I use coconut oil over cones and it absorbs just fine. I say give it a shot and see if it works for you.
And, welcome to the LHC! :flower:
Re: cones and coconut oil question
Great gals thanks!! I am on my way to store and very glad you get results without the clarifying...That just dries it so badly for me. I am glad I can use cones and still benifit from the coconut oil, my hair really needs the cones right now.
Re: cones and coconut oil question
I use cones every day.....and I oil 1-2 nights a week.....I only clarify every 3-4 weeks, as needed. The oil has really improved the condition of my hair!
Re: cones and coconut oil question
I have a question about coconut oil. I can't find "cosmetic" coconut oil in stores there, so can I use coconut oil from grocer's shop? Basic component is the same but I am still not sure...

IMO, the coconut oil from the grocer's shop should be even better than the "cosmetic" coconut oil. The food grade coconut oil will be just coconut oil with no fillers or anything.

Agreed. I find it's cheaper, too.
Re: cones and coconut oil question
Hello there,
I am new too, I've really found that coconut oil works wonders on any type of hair (my experience), it feels more like styling mousse and not as greasy as other oils. Ive used other oils but I never noticed a real difference for the better. I'm amazed at how quickly my hair has changed to the better. I can only recommend it. Plus as said its cheap :)
