New, hoping to learn better care routines to unstall my hair.
I've kind of browsed the LHC off and on for years. I always figured my hair was just very fine and brittle (when I started it was bra-strap length) because it wasn't getting any longer. I felt that nothing could be wrong with my care routine, that I just had bad genes and weak hair.
As the years went by, I quit smoking (in 2003) for reasons beyond "it is good for my hair" but it turned out to be good for my hair, too. My hair got longer.
I got a job involving power tools (in 2007) so for safety, I started wearing my hair up, secured out of the way, every day at work. That decreased the tangles and breakage for my hair and lo, it got longer again.
Along about 2011, I started washing it every other day or every third day (because when it's worn up it doesn't get as dirty and doesn't *look* dirty and so why bother with the very-frequent washing), which also turned out to be good for my hair.
At this point, I have hair that can reasonably be characterized as BCL if that stands for what I think it stands for (a region below hip, above classic). It measures 39" from the front hairline to the bulk of the ends, but that length has some thinning that I'd like to address.
Anyway, for the last year or so, my hair has kind of stalled. But, instead of steadfastly claiming that my hair "is just stuck" at a length, I am going to aggressively work on my care routine. There is certainly more I could be doing and I'm looking forward to learning what works for me. I'm sure there's a lot out there that I don't know about yet. :)
Re: New, hoping to learn better care routines to unstall my hair.
Welcome! Very good choice you made there, choosing not to smoke. I believe it may be because my mom smokes that her hair never got past mid-back length, but of course I still worry that it may be about genetics. I've heard a lot of good things about wearing your hair up, so I've challenged myself to wear my hair up every day this school year. Congratulations on your current success, and good luck in future growth!
