I recently discovered a website on which you can sell your hair for hundreds, even thousands of dollars!

Since I was looking for a chop and change (if you'll excuse my pun) anyway, I decided to go for it. I posted an ad on the site just a few hours ago, and it's already got fourteen views and i've already received one email!

Posting the ad, taking photos, measuring my hair and focusing on its condition made me realize- it's my very first LHC anniversary!

This is perfect because I took some great photos for the ad today, so I can post the anni pics that we all love so much!
So it's time to post those and talk about how great LHC has been for me!

Without further ado, here is my length shot from the beginning of Sept 2011:

Two hennas, two hair sticks, one wooden comb, one silk scarf, countless bottles of conditioner, one tub of coconut oil, twelve months, and 7+ inches later, here is a length shot from today, ending August 2012!

and another:

measuring the ponytail for potential buyers:

pony circumference (3 5/8"):

and finally, my braid, which I love, if I may say so :)

I'm so grateful for the LHC community! I learned so many things: from natural hair care tactics such as henna, oils, and aloe; to avoiding heat styling; to simply NOT TANGLING IT IN THE SHOWER! It really is all the little things that help improve your hair's condition!

After a year with you all I was very proud to write in all of my "credentials" in my ad (No bleach, no chemical dye, no heat styling of any kind, no hair spray, mousse, gel, teasing, perming, tight ponytails, layers, gentle treatment, gets a bedtime story every night :p )

So thank you everyone who was there along the way! (Whether you know it or not- you know I was stalking all of the threads. -wink-)

thank you! looking at these pics is really encouraging; because with something as gradual as hair growth, it's easy to think that nothing is really happening. Even with the henna, it only shines brightly in certain lighting.

One thing's for sure, the buyer is gonna have to cough up a good sum :)

thank you :) and if I can get the price I'm asking for, then yes. I was already wanting to cut it short anyway to experiment with colors and cuts and to "start over." I'm going for a curly style with half-moon bangs, with the length cut just shy of collarbone. and NO LAYERS!!!

i'm thinking of going black or at least darker but still with red undertones, for winter... the red i have now suits the length, i think, but i feel like darker would suit what i'm going for. I haven't decided yet!

Congrats on your one year - it looks beautiful.

I once heard of a lady who sold her hair for $10,000 (it was super long). I hope you get the amount you're looking for and still stick around with all of us :)

I seriously doubt that anyone would ever pay for my hair to be honest good on you though! Lovely hair I know I have a little bit of the green eyed monster over your hennaed tresses!

Sarahlabyrinth, so do I!
brave, thank you :)
Falcore, wow I really wish I could get THAT much for my hair!
SerinaDaith, to sell your hair it usually needs to be pretty long and unbleached at least. i bet you could sell since most of us LHCers are bleach free :)

I think if I ever get to actually be a longhair I would have a hard time letting it go again. I am not strong enough to deal with my hair this short again at this point in my life :P

I am just curious (and you don't need to name your price :) ) but how much does hair sell for? Is there a rule of thumb like so many dollars per inch, or is it just random?

lilyofthevalley, the pricing range for hair varies widely depending on condition, length, color, and thickness.

If it's in good condition (not bleached or dyed, no heat styling, etc) that will sell well.

and of course it has to be long enough to sell at least 10-12 inches.

The highest price of hair color is red, followed by blonde, black and brown, simply because red and blonde are not very common.

and with thick hair, well, there's just more of it! some people like to buy/sell by weight.

Since my hair is in very good condition (thank you LHC! -blows kisses), quite long, auburn, and very thick and strong, i'm asking a price that seems ridiculous. But if you look around at other redheads on the site it's not at all out of the ball park.

this is my ad if you're interested in looking and also checking the site out :)
