Hello everyone! Like many of you, I am sure, I have always admired the beautiful styles Carrie Fisher wears as princess Leia in the Original Star Wars films. I recently discovered this site: http://imaginary-styles.iwarp.com/ and had a great time trying to replicate some of them using Stephanie's instructions (although I did modify some of them slightly). Of course my attempts can't hold a candle to the gorgeous movie versions, but I thought I would share them with you nonetheless. Apologies to those of you who have seen these already in my blog - I wasn't going to repost them here but the lovely Henrietta convinced me otherwise!

I would love to have a second go at some of these, as I feel like I could get them to look a bit nicer with practice, but I enjoyed trying them all the same! Have any of you ever tried to replicate Leia's styles? I would love to see any photos you have if you are willing to share!
Thanks for looking,

They look great!
I'm a Star Wars fan but did not think of trying to replicate the Leia styles even though I do remember wishing my hair was as long as hers at many points. Maybe now I will now that you've given the inspiration (well, maybe once I get rid of some of these pesky layers first...) One of my favourite hairstyles for her is her hair when they are at the Ewoks. So simple but beautiful :)

You should definitely give them a try! I suspect you could do some of them even with the layers, just modify them so that they suit your own hair. I do love Leia's hair in that Endor scene... maybe I'll have to try that one next!

You rock! I've wanted Leia hair for 30 years. This is one of the coolest posts in the history of the Internet.
You should post these pics to Carrie Fisher.

Those are awesome, Suguru! :D I've always liked those styles, Princess Leia was one of my inspirations to grow out my hair the first time, when I was younger. I'm not sure my updo skills are up to the challenge just yet :o but I'd love to try these some day. Thanks for sharing!

I like the hairstyle, but I have to say, I don't think her hair is long enough or in good enough condition in that sequence for it to realistically make the gorgeous hairstyles she does. That's always bothered me.

Thanks guys, I'm really flattered!
Oh my goodness arc691, is that signed picture of Carrie yours? If so, I'm super jealous!
MeowScat, if only I could!
SlipJig, I am actually a very challenged braider who finds ways to cheat! :D And I agree, the rebel assault style, if done a little more nicely, is totally wearable. I love the idea of having my hair in a style that looks pretty and isn't obviously from Star War (like the classic double buns are). It would be even cooler if a true fan recognised a less known style!
RapunzelKat, I'm sure you could pull off these styles! I'm as updos challenged as they come! And you know what they'd look like on you too, since we're hair twins!
Elithia, I agree that her hair as shown in the Endor scene doesn't look quite long enough to make some of the styles in the movie...however I work on the assumption that Leia has super thick hair, at least triple my thickness and uses double braids for the wrapped-around-the-head styles rather than a single braid. I know that in reality wigs and false braids were used to create all of the styles except the one worn under the bounty hunter helmet in Return of the Jedi, and honestly that makes me feel a little better about the pathetic lack of thickness in my own versions! If hers were made with fake hair, there's no comparing them!

I read an article somewhere (it may even have been a thread here...I shall totter off for a browse) about how her hair was impossible to replecate realisticaly as hairpieces were used for most styles, and how her hair down was an indication that she would have had nowhere near enough length to do the styles. I wept for WEEK as became rather depressed ;)
This is the Anti Thread! My faith in Leias styles have been restored! Im amazed at how well you've done :) Im going to try some modified versions now and see if my Star Wars obsessed hubby recognises them....:D

I think this is the article you're talking about. http://skepchick.org/2010/07/mythbusting-princess-leias-hair/
I saw it too, and she is technically correct in that it would be difficult to impossible to create styles exactly like Leia's without false hair, but you can certainly make some reasonable imitations! And I suspect that with thick hair, Endor-length hair could even work for some of them. It's interesting, if you scroll through the comments on the article, someone mentions the Imaginary Styles site. I'm happy to have helped "bust" the myth that Leia's styles are impossible!
Fabulous! I especially like the last one and would totally wear my hair that way. Maybe I'll give it a try soon.
Oh please do! On Stephanie's site she does the Jabba's Palace style with a cinnabun (I think) on top of the braid, but I thought it looked a bit fancier than that, so I used a rose bun. Of course you can do whatever you want with the style, it won't look exactly like Leia's without the fancy bun cover she has!

Sorry, I don't.
Heh, I remember I was about 17 and I told myself that if I pout I resemble Carrie a bit :)
Anyway - I might try it out again, just for fun, especially that now my hair is longer :)

LOVE! And I'm not a huge star wars fan. You have beautiful hair and it looks wonderful in these styles.
I've read the article before on how Leia's hairstyles are impossible with the amount of hair she has when down, and it was funny. However, I was interested in your posting that thick hair makes a difference. I have thick hair and can sometimes imitate hairstyles that are supposed to be impossible without much more length than I have, sometimes tweaked a little bit. I mean updos, of course. My french braids and so forth look big because my hair is thick, rather than long (and being curly, it stays up easily). Doesn't work with everything but works a lot of the time, without me adding fake hair, which I never do (but people often think I have).
