Wow, I think I'm a mix of 2c, 3a and some 3b now! Mostly 3a, though.

Thanks for sharing! The squiggly drawings are cute :D

Wow, according to it I'm a mix of 2b and 2c but I thought I'm a 2a at most.

Wow, thanks for sharing. I gues I'm a mixure of 1, 2a and 2b then. I'm lately having a problem when I look at myself in the mirror and have some beautiful 2b waves around my face, and then I turn around and the hair at the back is not even solid 2a. I guess length has some part in it because my front hair is much shorter than back hair. Sigh ... I don't know.

The more I see things like this, the more I'm convinced simply putting '2' for my hairtype would be more accurate. :p

Thank you, Starry. This is very helpful. It's very easy for me now to see that I'm 2a/2b when my hair is properly moisturized.

I think for most of us, that's the important bit. A lot of the time when looking at a hair typing picture, the question in my mind is less about what the "true" type is and a lot more about whether the person would own a curling iron or a straightener.

For me, no question, curling iron.

Nice chart! I recently washed my hair and I see mainly 2b/2c locks. (A few 3a hairs, too!)

Exactly. My hair has a chaotic blend of everything from 2a to 3a -- I think the important thing is "can't treat it like straight hair and expect it to be happy".

That's so much easier. :) I'm still somewhere between 2a and 2b. My ends are more like 2b, until about the end of the day when they go limp sometimes and are more like 2a. But humidity restores the waves. And as long as I don't play with it too much or put it up too much.. :disco:

2b, 2c and 3a in different parts of my hair. I haven't washed it for a few days though, I'll re-check after next time I do. Thank you for this :)

I'm a mixture of 2a, 2b and 2c but the bulk of my hair is 2b so i will stick with that. Thanks for sharing :)

I've got 2c, 3a, 3b and 3c, according to the picture..but mostly 3a/3b, I think :)

True. I think most wavies/curlies have a mix, and how your hair should be treated also depends on other factors such as texture and porosity, too. Sometimes the possibilities can be overwhelming!

It's too bad she skips over the 1's as I would love to know if I'm a 1b or a 1c.

I'm a mix between 2a and 2b, but mostly 2a in my opinion. It depends a bit on what I have done to my hair though (oiling, washing, etc). I also think that the henna and indigo has had an effect on my waves, because I've looked at older pictures and my hair was more wavy (2b with some 2c) before I started using those.

According to the chart I'd be a 2a. Nice chart.

I like this chart. It is much more clear and simple than others that I have seen. According to the chart, about 80% of my hairs are 2a, and the other 20% range from 1 to 3a. I think its normal to have a mix.

That's a great chart - so clear. I would be 2b, 2c and 3a but 80% is 2b. So 2b is me officially.

Can't we just say 1, 2, 3 etc?

Great chart I have a mix of all the 2s and a 3 a in places...cool!

I was right. I'm 2c/3a, mostly 3a. If a damp hair falls and is left to dry on the counter, it makes a perfect circle 1 inch in diameter. If I hold it up it looks just like the 3a pic, but of course 3-dimensional. I do have 2a over my ears.

The botton of my hair is 3b and as you move the top of my head my hair becomes 2a, so I just picked the middle choice of 2c/3a.

I think my hair is a mix of 2a and 2b, though it probably looks like some are 2b because they are plait/banding waves.

Oh, Starry, thank you so much for posting this. It's so useful. I think anyone who's not clear how to figure out their hair type would love this. :cloud9:

I can't tell whether I am a 4b 4a or 4c They all just look the same to me. My bush is to thick and bushy to tell the difference. I googled this before when I first joined LHC When I looked at pictures of girls with those hair types it kind of helped because now I know for a fact that I am a 4,, I just don't know which 4 I am LOL. I think I am a 4c because I remember when I was a little girl and my mom would do my hair and I would look down at my hair that shedded and it would be little pieces of hair in perfect little circles and so I think that means I am 4c. I think??

I'd post of a piccie of your natural hair or (easier to see sometimes) shed hair on the Kinky 4s threads. They are the least represented hair type on LHC, but the ladies here know their stuff!

Edited to add: You could also have all types of 4 on your head. Lots of curlies are actually a mix. My hair is on the border between 3s and 4s, with my low 3s being in the back of my head and the 4as in front. I think of 4a as smaller than a pencil coils and 4c as the size of a coffee stirrer. 4bs are zigzag.

MUCH easier! :D I think I'm a mix of 2a and 2b... which seems to be pretty common around here.

I say whatever to my hair type. I'm more 2c when my hair is well moisturized, but it can go very straight whenever it gets dried out. Varies too much.
But I think it really desperately wants to be 3a. I want to tell my hair that it can be anything it wants and to never give up on its dreams.

Can't we just say 1, 2, 3 etc?
We could but the 3 subtypes all act differently and need different care. 3a is radically different from 3c.
