Exactly what is the difference between these two buns? Also show some pics of either if you have them.

aren't they the same? a loop over the rest of the hair?
I thought they were the same but i prefer making them the pencil bun way because it holds better for me. trying the methods to do a nautilus online really just never worked for me and that baffles me because theyre very similar if no the same. :p

They look the same to me, that's why I was asking. I just wondered if I was missing something.

I believe they "look" the same but are two different approaches at getting a similar look. I believe the pencil bun works easier for those with shorter hair/Or thicker hair that is not long enough for the looping/wrapping, whereas the "nautilus" bun is for longer hair (looping around the hand/wrist).....hope that makes sense. This is just my thoughts. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

So the only difference is the pencil bun is wrapped around a finger or two and the nautilus is wrapped around your whole hand? That was the only difference I saw.

I'm on board with the pencil bun being slightly better for thick hair- I'm at BSL, and I can just manage a pencil bun if I contort my bones and hair, but nautilus buns are completely out of the question. I'm not sure what the difference in technique is, sorry!

OMG I see different variations for the pencil bun. I thought this girl was doing almost a "Pha" bun, but here is her Pencil Bun Version:

and here is the "Pha" bun:

by the way, I love the music for this Pha bun tutorial!!!

Edit: If I am able to do the "Pha" bun someday, I'll definitely play the same music she did while doing it. LOL

Yeah that version of the pencil bun looks just like a pha bun. This is the version that I was saying looks like a nautilus bun.

Of course I've also seen a "nautilus bun" that looks just like a lazy wrap bun.

Torrin has a really beautiful video for the nautilus ..

I've always thought the pencil bun and lazy wrap looked pretty much the same but my nautilus looks different.

LOL I ended up getting that song in itunes. I have to say it's a good music to do buns while using ones own favorite fork. :)

I have tried the Pha bun many times and failed, but the music makes me want to keep trying, LOL.

Pencil bun, lazy wrap, and nautilus are all pretty much the same thing, a loop with hair wrapped around the base and then you use the loop on the outside and a stick going over/under/over the loop/wrapped hair/loop. They do kinda look different sometimes because they're made differently though (imho).

The Pha bun (or orchid twist as it was called when I first found it) works pretty well even on shorter hair if you don't bother wrapping the base. Its very handy that way.

That's the one I was thinking of too.
