I think the title says it all. But all of you who want to be at waist within the next eighteen months, post what length you're at now and how many inches you have to go. Hopefully we can all learn from and support others with common goals and common struggles.

Right now I'm a little below shoulder length. I have roughly 20 something (I'm really lazy with measuring) inches to go. Can't wait to get there, though! Good luck, all!

Hello :). My hair is about 24 inches and I think it will reach my waist when it's about 32 inches. So just 8 inches to go!

Hi there! Right now I'm 21 inches and I hope I'll be WL by Christmas next year?? Waist on me is about 32 inches so I have roughly another 10 inches to go!

I was wondering...all of you who want to reach waist by 2014, is this your final goal? Or do you want to grow longer? ;)

Sarahlabyrinth

It's my final goal at the moment. However once I reach it I might decide to go longer...

Ooooh count me in!!! I can not wait to have waist length hair, infact, I get giddy excited just thinking about it :)

I am 23.5" and have about 6.5" to go, waist is a round 30" on me. My hair isn't particularly fast growing and I have alot of trimming to do to keep my ends reasonable. My ends have a tendency to get thin very quickly, especially with my horrid layers I am growing out.

I am hopeful though, that I will get there by 2014.

Let's grow together! :blossom:

I don't measure my hair, but I have roughly 7 inches to go (using the uber-accurate, "one finger width is half an inch" measuring system :p I grow half an inch per month, and in the summer if I sleep, exercise, and am outside enough it's more like 0.75" per month. I'd like to hit a solid, healthy, trimmed waist by New Years 2014. That's 16 months away, so if I gain 9 inches by then, I should reach my goal :)

It seems so far away!! Oh well, I'm sure we'll all be there before we know it

Probably sometime in 2014 ..I'm at 21 inches I think and I have a long torso. 31 inches for waist for me. I think I grow 1/2 a month but I'm using mn to speed up growth. I'm guessing may 2014.

I have 6" to go, but I also have trimming and I plan to eradicate my layers and splits. I expect I'll reach sometime in 2013 then(:

Hello !
a waist length is just what I want !
I'm APL at 23 inches and my waist should be around 32.
So... 9 to go !

I'm glad to join you on this journey

I'm almost to APL now. Just measured at 20 inches, waist length for me will be 32 inches.

One foot of hair by 2014 seems like a good goal. I don't think I'll be going longer than waist

I have a short torso I guess. Even though I am 5'6", WL is only 29" on me (I am all legs!).

I am at APL, 23 inches. So it's only 6 inches, I am sure I can get there by then.

:D

Count me in as well! I'm at APL around 23-24 inches. I really don't know how fast my hair grows, but it would be nice to just be in a support group where everyone is trying to reach the goal of waist length. Since I'm 5'11, I don't know how long this will take me. What height is everyone? :)

Welcome everyone! Lucky Lucy, I plan to grow to classic, but I'm setting smaller goals to get there. I'm at apl which is around 15-16 inches, and I have about 7 inches to go, but I might trim and I have some breakage I'm wanting to get under control. I'm 4'11 and still growing, though I (hopefully) won't be any taller than 5'4. I have a short torso right now and hope it stays that way.
My half-birthday is tommorow, so in eighteen months I'll have a birthday, and it would be lovely if I had waist-length by then!

Omg, classic length is my dream length as well. Which is why I bought a ravenscroft moon fork in a five inch, even though it's a hair piece for knee length hair. LOL But I usually just put ??? marks on my profile because I just want to make small goals as well.

I agree on the small goals. I'm growing for classic in four years because that's probably going to look like waist with shrinkage, which is where I want to be for graduation.

I sincerely hope I can make it to waist by 2014; I'll be a little bummed out if I can't. :(
I'm 5'3.9". I'm at APL stretched, "can I call this APL" dry which is 20-21 inches for me.

Waist is 29 inches for me, so 8 inches give or take. I get about a half an inch every month, so if I don't get too many trims, I should be there. :)

My final goal is tailbone (36 inches), but I will be maintaining at waist to cut out all my dye damage. ETA: I guess it's not really damage, I only have a half an inch of actual dye damage left, but I have seven inches of henndigo that I want to cut out.

WAIST LENGTH BY 2014 HERE WE COME

juliaxena
August 15th, 2012, 12:20 PM
I want to try. I think it depends on how much damage I will be cutting off. I am two inches away from BSL after my last chop 10 days ago. From there it is 5 more inches (I think???) to waist. I have 6 inches of dyed hair still. So that is about 13 inches if I want it all virgin. In 18 months? Hmmmm.

domisimone
August 15th, 2012, 12:33 PM
My hair should be long enough to S&D effectively by January, which will cut down on my need to trim as my hair is fine and loves to split! I'm really glad so many of you jumped in.

Sarahlabyrinth
August 15th, 2012, 02:29 PM
I'm 5'10. Apl is 20 inches for me, am currently 21 inches (next measuring end of Aug) and another 12 inches of growing will bring me nicely to waist length at 33 inches.

I would like to join, but I have 16 inches to go, so it would be a bit unrealistic to think, that I can get there in 18 months. Till the end of the 2014 maybe. I'm a bit past shoulder and my waist is at around 33 inches also.

August 15th, 2012, 04:44 PM
I think I can join this challenge and make it! I'm halfway between APL and BSL. Even if I don't make it early 2014 I should definitely be there barring any bad luck. Good luck everyone!

dwell_in_safety
August 15th, 2012, 04:48 PM
I am definitely in this group! It will be a nice milestone for me because that's where I'm pausing to maintain and trim off dyed hair before charging forward to tailbone, and hopefully I'll be able to do a couple more buns at that length.

I'm 5'2", am APL at 23" now, and waist is 30". So I have about 7 inches to go, which should take about 14 months. So I should be waist by winter solstice 2013! Woot! I don't plan on going longer than waist.

Count me in! I'm halfway between SL and APL at the moment. I'll have a measure tomorrow to see how far I've got to go.

Just to clarify though, does 'waist length by 2014' mean we have to reach that length by the last day of 2013? Or the last day of 2014?

Hoping!

I'm a little past APL right now, I think I have about 7 inches to go. My growth rate is about .5" a month, so I should be close, if not there.

ETA: I'm 5'2. Waist on me is 29.5", hair is currently 22.75". My final goal is somewhere between tailbone and thigh. Or whenever it strangles me in my sleep.

I am sooo looking forward to having waist length hair again!
DDs 14 & 9 are at waist and DD 11 is nearly at classic. Even my 16 yo who seems to change her hair every few weeks and my 2 yo are at solid BSL, and DH is at MBL. I feel like my hair is so short in comparison to everyone else in this house! Only my 5 yo boy and the cats/bunnies have shorter hair.

I'm in. I'm 5'4". My hair is just skimming the top of my bra band, and I have a good 10" to go before the majority of it would hit waist. Waist is my final goal I think.

I have no idea how many trims I might need between now and then, and no true idea how fast my hair grows per month. I know that I was below shoulder in July 2011, and it's about 6" inches longer now, but I had a trim last month where at least an inch, maybe 2, was cut off.

So if I conservatively estimate 0.6 inches per month, with 17 months to go, I should just make it (17x0.6=10.2).

My hair has been long for many years, always to bsl never got longer that. I chopped a big chunk off in a fit of temper a couple of years ago and we are back to bsl. Since finding this site I am now hopeful it will grow longer so lets get growing.......
I have about 6" to go.

August 16th, 2012, 08:57 AM
I am at about 29 in right now and so I have about three or four inches to go. That may not seem like a lot but that will take me about a year to accomplish because my hair grows so slow! My current goal is waist length but I do not know if I will stop there.

I want to!! Ok so my hair is just a little bit below BSL and I want to grow it to waist . I will be trimming regularly but but I still think I can make it . I have at least 10 to 12 inches to go .

I have a layer I want to grow out and I have henna I'm growing out . My hair is pretty healthy but I have alot of split ends , so Im hoping by doing baby trims every month I can get rid of most of them while doing catnip rinses .

SerinaDaith
August 16th, 2012, 11:10 AM
Well in am at 15 inches now and waist on me is 29 so I guess 14 inches of growth could be possible by the very end of 2014 but I guess only time will tell. I think 2015 is probably a more realistic goal for me.

ETA: I am a short torsoed 5'2" so my problems in longer lengths will be when I start getting to leg lengths. I plan on celebrating every mini milestone like right now I am brushing the tops of my shoulders! I want to enjoy each length as I pass it because with any luck my hair will never be this short again!

Ok, so now we wait...
tick, tock...

I am hoping that spending at least 1-2 days a week oiled and conditioned up (DT), oiling up my ends regularly, using catnip rinses, will keep the splits at bay to allow me to grow as much as I can with minimal trims. Also, wearing hair up most of the time and no heat.

I can deal with dry ends, but I don't want them to turn into damaged ends.

I feel like this is a realist goal for me. I've been trimming every 6 months and growing out my bangs since January. I've struggled with hair loss/extreme shedding over the past 1-2 years. My biggest struggle right now is learning to love the hair I have. I'd love to be at waist in 2014, it's the year I graduate college and it would feel amazing to walk across the stage with my dream hair length.

Yay for Yule! We actually celebrate on Christmas. I keep trying to shift the celebration to the solstice, since none of my family is Christian anyway, but traditions are stubborn I guess. People have a hard time getting gifts ready a few days earlier! The past couple years, we exchanged gifts on the solstice and did a big get together on Christmas. Ah well, what's a few days difference... the celebration is the same. ;)

I have a hard time having enough energy to organize something on the solstice as well... I concentrate on doing something on the other solstices and equinoxes, when there's not so much going on. For instance the autumn equinox is coming up, and I should invite everyone over soon!

I'm afraid I'm not a hair toy addict. :uhh: I have a ketylo stick that I got because I was getting one for a swap, so I threw in one for myself too. I have a bunch of DPNs that I found at the thrift store. I have some half-finished natural sticks. I have some spin pins which I love, and bobby pins, and no-metal hair ties. And a bunch of old barrettes that are not kind to my hair.

I mostly have a goal of wearing my hair down and free most of the time. :D

It will be for me! I'm just waiting for that day to be able to do a braided bun! What about you? Oh and the other dream bun I have is the nautilus and rose bun. I think the rose bun will have to wait until I hit at least classic length because of the length needed to do a really good rope braid for that bun. :D

By rose bun , I mean like this:
http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j277/shyboyfriend/actionrr1m.jpg

This was an action shot of my moon fork that i ordered from miss knee length Shirl of ravenscroft moon forks, I had her do this because I had ordered the exact size she likes to wear for her extreme length, and I was curious how it's supposed to look like for her length. I now keep this moon in my own vault, and I'll just have to wait for a long time, it's my motivational piece to grow my hair, and it was not cheap so I'm forced to grow really long. Hahaha

I now keep this moon in my own vault, and I'll just have to wait for a long time, it's my motivational piece to grow my hair, and it was not cheap so I'm forced to grow really long. Hahaha

ROWIE, I know your hair is really thick already, but what about a paranda braid at add length for the braided bun? I have been thinking about this because I was having trouble with wearing my ON ax (slippy and heavy), and also I have a moon coming and have some large forks.

I tried a paranda braid last night and was able to make a braided bun with it, and my ax held securely. Now I just need to find medium brown yarn, because my colored paranda + colored hairtoys just looks funny a bit.

I think this is a realistic goal thread for me. I'm just below APL now at about 19 inches. APL is about 18.5 inches for me; when I first joined I said I was APL but it was borderline at 18 inches exactly; now it's solid and moving on toward BSL.

I'm pretty happy with my ends; planning on not trimming till it's long enough for me to self-trim. I can't figure out exactly where my waist is; however, if I grow about 7.5-8.5 inches from where I am now, I'll call that waist. ;)

ETA: update -- measuring properly, my hair is actually 21-22 inches (I used to just measure this one lock, but it turns out you're supposed to measure over your hairline). APL is about 21 inches, BSL 25, waist 28.5. Incidentally, the lock has grown to exactly 19 inches, so that's one inch of growth since about June 8th -- almost exactly average. :)

I'm in, even tough I've joined so many threads like this before, but never made it in time. Let's hope this time it will be different. I've sworn off cutting for at least the remaining of this year. I tried to do a U hemline, but it didn't last. My hair just insists upon fairytale ends, so I'm just going to let it grow wild.:)

I would like to join, but I have 16 inches to go, so it would be a bit unrealistic to think, that I can get there in 18 months. Till the end of the 2014 maybe. I'm a bit past shoulder and my waist is at around 33 inches also.
I'm in the same boat. I am pretty sure can get there by the end of 2014. What I would really like is to get to waist by autumn of 2014, which is my 30th birthday!

My hair has been plodding along at 0.5 inches per month. I have the measurements and estimates in the spreadsheet I got from this site, but they are on another computer. I think I probably have about 13 inches to go.

"let it grow wild." I like it. I think this is what I'm going to do. I've thought about doing a trim to get rid of layers (after 2012 of course), but I think I'll probably procrastinate until the layers fairytale into oblivion.

Hey guys! I'm here. I'm glad to see a thread where everyone will be together for a while. I'm currently almost 21" I think. I need to measure again. APL on me is 23 1/2". Waist is 31". So hopefully I'll hit waist in spring/summer 2014. Glad to see you again rowie. Let's get growing.

I might make it. I'm at 23 inches now (stretched). Dry, it varies. Waist is 31 to 32 inches on me so I'm going to take a shot in the dark here and guess I need somewhere between 10 and 12 inches to get there dry (wavy, curly). :D

Assuming the thread is waist during 2014 and not before 2014 then I'm in. I'm at 19" with a lot of damage to cut out so I'm not sure if I will make it but I'd love to try. It is theoretically possible, it just depends how much trimming I'm forced to do. I don't even know if my hair can grow that long, it seems to be stalling a little at the moment so it's hard to think about ever reaching waist!

ETA: Waist is 32" for me so 13" to go.

Good idea! But lately, I've been into Amish pins. I'll bring my review in this thread to share even though I posted this on the APL to BSL thread, so my apology to those who are going to see a double review.

I love Amish Pins!
http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j277/shyboyfriend/IMAGE_1A005307-10EE-4709-B306-BE04847C4C69.jpg

It sure is nice to live in New England! If you are ever around New England you can easily find a small Amish village where they sell these gems. I now have tools I can use when I need to look conservative, and places where I feel is very much conservative and wearing a hairstick might cause attention being that I'm a man. So it is nice to always have options in general to secure hair differently and securely regardless of gender.

Shot of where my Amish pins come from:
http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j277/shyboyfriend/IMAGE_F0F7F565-EAED-47DF-8DB5-79AD28C4D67F.jpg

Biggest tip to make these work for the Straight pins:
http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j277/shyboyfriend/IMAGE_76DF2CDF-2AB1-4F83-B47B-E84234785541.jpg

Close the straight pins like as if they are tweezers, while it is closed weave them into your bun like a hair stick, making sure you catch scalp hairs, then release the pin and it should open wide inside the bun, and giving you a secure tight feel that it won't pop up! You should definitely feel a grip the moment you release the pin to open on its own.

Closeup of how the pins look like on dark hair. I put a total of just two 3 inch straight amish pins in this cinnabun that ended up looking like a flat loaf of bread.
http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j277/shyboyfriend/IMAGE_BB8013F8-4B7B-4812-AD4F-18388A79E5BF.jpg

I definitely would recommend the 3" size for thick hairs or very long hair because of its size. I know it looked overpowering when I was weaving it in my bun, but it feels so secure, and the quality is definitely there. This is a must have, and I love it better than spin pins!!!!!

I still haven't tried the crinkle type ones yet, but i'm sure it will be fabulous. I think I'll invest in getting smaller sizes for if I want to make two smaller buns, or for half up buns. :D If you have anymore questions, please feel free to ask and I'll try my best to answer them.

Glad to see you again rowie. Let's get growing.
<hugs> I can't wait for all of us to share any tips we may have, the more the merrier, and yes, let's keep growing!!!!!

Okay, I've changed my mind. Acknowledging that my hair would be healthier with a blunt cut, I have decided to keep my layers (for now). I like my layers, they frame my face nicely. Maybe once my hair is past waist I'll consider a blunt cut again.

I still have a lot of damage, even though for the past year I've been taking better and better care of it. I guess for now I'll stick with search and destroy and then I'll trim if the fairy tale ends get too out of hand.

I really like this thread. I definitely think I can make this deadline, as long as I don't trim off too much. I shouldn't have a problem with this now that I'm trimming my own hair :D

I wanted to get rid of the layers aswell. But I've decided it's not worth it. To loose so much lenght... After searching for photos of fairytale ends, I am absolutely sure, that I'd like them on me, if my hair was longer, say MBL or waist. So I'm just letting them grow out. It is the easiest and fastest way of growing long hair: don't cut it.:D

I'm in. I'm just past APL, so I have about a foot to go to get to waist, and will need more growth than that to make up for the length eaten by waves. (Tall + long torso + wurly = long journey to waist.) But sometime in 2014 seems realistic for waist. Looking forward to being able to do a proper English braid!

ETA: I'm 5'8". Also, I still have a bit of layering in my hair, which I dislike for braiding purposes, but I'm keeping it for now to minimize triangle-head. Will probably reassess after BSL and decide if I want to trim a bit.

I'm in! Yesterday I got ride of my layers. I cut 2,5 inch. I was almost midback. Now I'm just BSL if I pull a strand of hair. I'm a little bit sorry but I was trying to grow out my layer for 2 years so yesterday I made a bold decision. I'm glad I did.
Now I want to focus on long healthy hair. To prevent split ends I frequently trim my hair. Every 5 or 6 months. My hair doesn't grow super fast.

Ok, I was before kind of against measuring because I figured I'd just get it wrong. But in the mirror and against the bathroom sink to hold it taut, and read with a hand mirror it's really not that hard at all. I have a little widow's peak point in my hairline that I start with (cheater!) I'm not going to really expect to be accurate in terms of fractions of an inch. By the inch is fine by me.

So, here we go.

I am all one length, no layers. Three inch ponytail circ., A bit over 19 inches now, and it seems that 21 inches would be APL on me. 25 inches looks to be BSL, and 29 looks to be waist.

So that means I have 10 inches to go to waist! That is totally doable by summer 2014 (my goal!) barring any problems. We will see.

Hey, I have a question for y'all. What hemline do you have now, and what are you going for eventually.

I have a blunt hemline now, and I think I will like to go for a U when I get about waist. I might also want fairy tale ends eventually.

I THINK I have a very slight U shape - so my mom tells me, she cuts my hair for me. I hope I can get someone to take a picture of my hair for me today because all I wrote are my estimates and not precise measurements. I want to see if they seem to be mostly correct plus it will be a year since my last album picture in good two months. There should be some progress visible. I can't imagine fairytale ends on me though. I want them as blunt as thick as possible for my hair type and thickness.

Sarahlabyrinth
August 19th, 2012, 12:10 PM
I have more or less a blunt hemline, though it's getting a little uneven without a trim since April 2011. I have been thinking that at waist I might like a gentle U shape though, haven't tried one of those before. What do you all think would suit wavy hair best?

I do prefer a thick hemline as opposed to fairytale ends.

No one believes I'm going to make it to waist length in eighteen months! My mom says it will take four years (I want to be at classic in four years!). I think most of my family is placing bets against me.
Wildcat Diva, why don't you grow for waist when stretched? If I went for waist including my curls, I would have to be around classic to see the length--which is not very likely in eighteen months!

I'm going for WL! I'm about 2" away from BSL and maybe 3" to WL from there? Maybe more. I don't measure my hair, it would be too easy to get obsessed with it (more than I am already!). I'm much less about wanting length now and more about length and condition of my hair together. I'm 5'5" but am awkwardly proportioned, I need petite pants and tall shirts  Once I get to WL I'm going to maintain there until my layers grow out and I thicken my hemline before I grow any longer.

Can anyone give me some pointers about what kind of light conditions I should create to get my camera to show the difference between new growth and dyed parts? My hair doesn't really look colored in real life because it seems that the fading is gradual and natural (sun bleached look) but up until now I always managed to capture the difference on camera. Even last week when I photographed my bun. I have no idea what I am doing wrong today and yesterday and I don't remeber the light conditons from last week.

I think natural light (also outside maybe) would be the best. My compact camera just makes my hair all red, if I need to use flash. And it is not red.

I agree as well with the whole "natural light" element for taking hair photos. This may sound odd, but whenever I do a hair toy action shot, I open the blinds of my bathroom window just to take self pictures with my iphone. I think with natural light you can get natural shine that will look good, even in a smart phone camera. If you mix the bathroom light with natural light, it also makes a dramatic effect. Play around with the lighting around you and maybe you'll find a setting that will make you happy. I hope that helps. :)

Can I jump in here? About 15 years ago I had hair I could just sit on. I don't think I want that again but I love the way a friend's waist length hair looks so that's my current goal. I haven't measured but it looks about mid -back already. By feel I think I only have about 4-5 inches to go for my longest layer. I haven't had a trim in 10 months, so think i'll continue to just let it grow until it hits waist then start trimming to get rid of layers.

Great idea, good luck everyone!

I'm in!! :p My goal is waist by New Years (at the beginning of) 2014.

For waist I need about 31 inches. But I measure length (inches) when my hair is wet and straightened out, and mark landmarks when my hair i dry and poofy... if that makes any sense. Anyways, I'm gonna add another 3 inches for the poof and say I need 34 inches for a good solid waist with dry hair. That means about 9.5 inches, if I don't trim... well, I don't actually know how fast my hair grows, so let's hope I can make it.

9.5 inches in 16 months. Hmm. Grow!!

I'm impressed! I don't think I could wear it up daily for that long. But then I like having my hair down as long as it's feeling cooperative that day. I think I do hair up about 1/2 the time.

Braids and buns look untidy  I usually wear my hair in a french twist with my wooden 3 prong fork or a ficcare, but my hair is actually pretty thick and it will still be awhile before I can do buns. I just cut my tailbone lenght hair back to just above waist lenght, and so it's exactly at APL when curly!
It took me 2 years to grow from APL to WL (curly) with LOTS of bigger and smaller trims.I hope that now, with better care and healthier hair to start over with,it will get there much sooner!

Count me in! I just recently did a big chop to shoulder length after having a nasty stylist attack my almost mid-back hair with layers and what not. I'm got about 13-14 inches to grow so I'm opptimistic but this is a great challenge. Aiming for one-length blunt, undyed waist length in 2014, phew! As for height I'm 5"7 and waist length is about 33 inches on me I think. Good luck everybody :applause

I think I have about 8 inches to go at this point... I'm hopeless at measuring lengths that I haven't reached yet, but my longest lock of hair was 19 inches on 8 August, and it's got about 7-9 inches to go at this point.

I think I'm also 2 inches/4 months to BSL. Hoping to speed up a little and reach it by January.

13.75 inches from my waist. Still possible by the end of 2014 I think. Definitely not attainable early though I don't think unless I start getting an inch a month again like I was this summer. Oh well let it grow as it will I guess.

Yay! Just wanted to share that my hair grew about 2 inches since my last post (so that probably means I can expect an inch a month this summer) I then cut this off and now all of my hair in blunt-as-blunt can be with no more layers at collarbone length. I thought this would look boring but am surprised how well this style works on straight hair. Awkward stage avoided thanks to TLHC and faye's self trim method!

On a side note. . Any other people on here with thick straight clunky hair? What has worked for you to get rid of frizz?

What is everyone's hairtoy/treat when they near their goal? I'm thinking some sleep-in velcro rollers?

I want to join in the fun! Right now my hair is at 28 inches, I am not 100% sure where waist would be on me because I am like 8 months pregnant so I have no waist right now, but I think its at 30 or 31 inches, so I will be at solid waist at 32 inches I think. So I figure with me trimming half my growth to get back to virgin hair I should be able to reach waist by January of 2014. I really need hubby to take pictures for me so I can post them. I can never seem to get past waist though, I really want to get to classic, even hip will do, but every time I get to waist I do a 4-5 inch chop due to damage and thinning ends (which is why this time around I trim every 2 months to keep things nice and even and help minimize damage). I really want a blunt hemline, however my hair seems to want to always go into a deep v/ fairy-tail hemline instead. Thinking very far into the future if I can get to waist by January 2014, then I will need 6 more inches until I get to hip, so that will be another 2 years, hopefully by the time I am there I will have 100% virgin hair, if I trim half my growth for the next 3 years that is.

I'm 5'2", am APL at 23" now, and waist is 30". So I have about 7 inches to go, which should take about 14 months. So I should be waist by winter solstice 2013! Woot! I don't plan on going longer than waist.

Wow, 7 months later and I'm 28-29 inches long. My hair grew a lot faster than I thought it would! I guess I must be doing something right! I averaged about 3/4" a month.

At this rate, it'll only be another 2 months until I can start maintaining at waist.

I've got about 7 inches to go to waist, so I won't make it by the beginning of 2014, but possibly sometime in 2014. I've got a significant amount of hair that is about 3 inches less then my longest pieces that is driving me nuts. I'm trying to decide if I want to maintain at BSL when I get there until the rest of my hair catches up, or keep racing to waist, but then cut back to where the layer is after taking celebratory photos. Either way it will be that much longer until I'm at true waist.

I'm getting there! Now bordering 28" stretched, I'm hoping to call it either this weekend or the next. I might even reach 28.5" before the end of April. At that point, I might be able to call waist unstretched by the end of April then. I know for a fact that my hair is waist stretched. I'm expecting to reach waist probably before school is out, and definitely before schools starts up again.

I think I might reach hip stretched before the year is over, but I'm not sure about unstretched. Hip stretched is about 32" (btw, I always measure stretched, so even when I'm talking about hitting a milestone unstretched I refer to it in stretched length) but I have no idea how long it would be unstretched. Maybe 35". I probably won't reach that then.

I'm not sure where waist is on you, but for me it's 29". I bet you will be at waist sooner than 2014, but I guess it depends on your trimming schedule. I'm not going to trim, I'm not, I'm not. It's already been one year since my last trim last year. Let's see if I can make it one more year at least. Right now I look to be at 23" length. After a big chop I went from WL to brushing BSL and I need 5 more inches (possibly 6 for solid waist) but at least my layers are gone now so it will actually look long when it gets there. Libbylou, you and I are in about the same length boat. I have layers that I like (because they keep my hair from bushing out like a pyramid), but I keep thinking about trimming my ends because they look a bit straggly when I braid, especially French or Dutch braid. OTOH, I'm not sure that a trim will really fix that as long as I have layers, and I don't intend to give those up. And I am really wanting every additional millimeter of growth at this point because I'm *finally* starting to be able to do more buns. Hmm.

I have layers too. Braids with layered hair is inevitably gonna have some ends sticking out. I found using a little extra oil on the ends helps them look less scraggly and stick out less. Like you layers make my hair look loads better when I wear it down (when I didn't have layers I really couldn't wear it down at all) but I've been thinking of trying longer layers. I think it might be best to have the longest layers possible that allows me to also wear my hair down. I wonder if a v shaped hemline would work....

I'm at BSL when stretched. Eyeballing it would put me at about 7" to go. May not be there by 2014 but definitely before 2014 if I can resist the usual urge to chop impulsively for no apparent reason.

My goal is to be at waist by Christmas. IF I don't chop and keep up with my hair routine, I should be able to make it. I'm currently at BSL and have 4-5 inches before I get waist. My hair needs to grow an inch each month and if I keep on top of my routine and eating right, I actually do gain an inch of growth (sometimes a little more in the summer) per month. I'll look at this as tangible motivation to eat right as I don't need to lose weight and eat right for health reasons (as everyone should :P).

I've got about 6 inches to grow to get to waist. I'm still in for the challenge, but I'm starting to waver on what my long-term length goal is. My hair has gotten a bit heavy and hard to manage for the last few inches and I think I'll probably cut back to an inch or so above BSL when I'm done growing it out for curiosity's sake. But on the other hand, I can just now barely do a lazy-wrap or nautilus bun and there a few more fancy styles I want to try when I have more length and I'm not sure I want to give up that ability.

Hello guys! :) I think I am joining you, I'm in!! Currently at Bsl, 10 cm/ about 4 inches to waist. I don't know much about my growth rate in the fall/winter, because I never payed attention to it, but in the summer I had CRAZY growth! Hoping for good growth thanks to LHC (not much breaking). I think I should be at waist by the next summer for sure. I am going to trim a little, getting rid of the layers. Happy growing ladies! :cheer:

Still on target for late summer 2014. About 4 inches to go. About 8-9 months. No trims. I'm almost at BSL now.

I'm at BSL. I have 5 more inches until waist! I think I'll reach it by my birthday. Yay!!

Count me in! I'm currently at 25", with waist length at 29", so I should get there sometime next summer. My plan is to maintain at waist to get rid of my layers, then either continue to maintain indefinitely or grow onward to hip.

Very likely I'll be solidly waist length in late 2014, so count me in as one who will leave the dreaded midback abyss sometime next year.

I can't remember if I've posted in this thread (don't think I have, haven't been posting much lately!) but this is me! I'm just shy of BSL and hoping to get to waist by my 21st next September (beginning of the month). I am dying to get back to waist after chopping to my collarbone late last year due to lots of damage and a horrible demarcation line.

I don't know how reachable a goal this is for me- I'm at 21"(ish) and waist for me is 30". My hair grows pretty quickly so it doesn't feel like an unreasonable goal if I give myself till the very end of 2014, what do you all think?

I'm in too! Just had the surprise of my life ( well not really, but you know!). Took a long overdue length shot today and am solidly BSL. I have about 5 inches to waist. Summer / autumn 2014 here I come!

I am still here. Almost bsl/mbl. I have 4 1/2 inches till waist. I finally feel like I am getting somewhere. I should get there next summer. I think this thread needs some pics of those who may have made it already.

2014 seemed a long way away when this thread was started but it's here now! How is everyone doing on their hair growth? I've got 4 inches to go until I get to waist length. My hair grew about 4.5 inches total in 2013, so it seems reasonable to expect to be there sometime in 2014.

Still here, still growing! I don't measure my hair (I find it inaccurate) but I do take pics when I remember to. Looks like I'm about 1" or so away from waist (again)! I'm hoping to get that inch or more and be SOLIDLY waist length by the end of March. I would love to at least be brushing waist on DD's birthday in late February, but we'll see.

From waist, it's only 4" until Hip...so maybe I could hit BOTH goals in 2014? Here's hoping!
