I think this style is really unusual, and I'd love some help figuring it out:

It looks to me like she did the regular English braids on the side, then twisted up the buns with the ends of the braids inside??

She had a 30 day challenge, which is now in an eBook, which I'm tempted to get for some inspiration. All the styles are done using what she calls the "twist and pin" method, which I've never heard of before.

I don't know, but she has gorgeous curls! I had that haircut before I started growing it out.

yes, 3 plaits ending in 3 buns

Can you tell which she had to do first, the bun or the plait?

Makes sense, I just don't see how she got them under the buns then!

they are trapped in the bun.
basicaly, you bun the end of the plait with the loose hair that makes the bun.

alittle clip or pin can help keep the plaite in place if the hair is not long enough to twirl in there *;OP

My hair is quite a bit longer than hers, it seems like it would be easier to manage with shorter hair. I just end up with all these long strands that I don't have enough hands to manipulate.

*;O) the octopus wish!
get clips and pins to help (they do good as extra fingers)

seperate your hair in 3 rows from top to bottom
clip the bottom 2 - clip out 2/3 of your hair to save for the bun - work the 1st plait across
clip the 1st plait on the other side - un-clip the saved bun hair and bun the lot
same for row 2
same for row 3

tada *:OD

It appears the hair is sectioned in 3 tiers. The first tier braids are joined at the back, then the remaining hair from the two braids is twisted and formed into the bun.

Ditto for the 2nd tier and the last tier.

A variation would be to have 3 tiers but twist 2 strands together on each side (instead of braiding them), then join, then do a braided bun with the remaining hair in that tier.

I think she braided a bit from the top section to the required length, tied it off, and then made a twist on the other side. Then the 2 were joined (I would guess with an elastic) and bunned. Repeat going down the scalp.

Its very cute.
