Hi there! Been gone a long time, but I've come back! Just wanted to post on my progress since I've been gone...a couple inches above my waist now! It's not terribly much longer than it was this time last year (see profile picture or album), but I have gotten rid of a lot the layers, filling the ends out better. See? Very exciting.

Now, I used to be a crazed hair dyer from the time I hit puberty until a few years ago when I stopped because I wanted healthy hair. I think I've gotten rid of all the color at this point, maybe a few tips here and there left from remaining layers. I've been craving a color change in the worst way though. I usually have no problem growing it this long, but I always start craving a change around this length (probably from all the waiting) and usually resort to chopping it off. I'm wanting to avoid that, so I was thinking I would try the natural routes (henna, indigo, etc.).

I know there are a lot of guides and stuff out there, but I'm a complete newbie at natural hair dying and I'm terrified of doing it wrong. I want to go darker, a very dark brown, but with a reddish hue. Cool hair tones don't work as well as warm colors on me. Below was the favorite color I ever achieved, from my senior portrait in high school. It was a "darkest brown" shade put over a red (that horribly clashed with my skin). Though I might like it a little redder than that. I always loved red hair, just to tan to make a true red work. :)

Which guide would be best at re-achieving a look like this? Do you have any preferred henna/indigo recipes and brands (and places to buy them from?) Any tips you want to give so I don't make any newbie mistakes? All advice is welcome!

edit: sorry for the large pictures...keep resizing but it doesn't seem to change things...hmm.

This is a really good article to start. http://http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/vbjournal.php?do=article&articleid=7

I did a two step henna indigo process to achieve black, but
I think you will need a henna indigo mix in order to get dark brown. There are instructions at the end of the article above.

There is henna thread on this site that could be of use.

I am also happy to share instructions for my mix, but I don't know if it would be helpful. I altered my mix to be moisturizing because I have dry hair.
