I think I need to trim about an inch of my hair. It's so dry and damaged right now. Lots of splits ends all over. I do search and destroy but it really needs a clean cut. I can't afford to go to a salon right now. Does anyone have any tips on self trimming long blended layers? About two years ago I had a razor cut so lots of layers still growing out. Can someone remind me of the self trim video tutorial that I keep seeing mentioned around here. I can't remember where I saw the link for it.

May I suggest doing some intensive treatments for a couple of weeks before you cut? My hair is about your length and was displaying that same dryness and splitting you write about. Not that I have sorted out the splits, but doing moisture treatments every couple of days has done a world of good to my hair - to the point where I thought I might have to cut to BSL, and now I'm wondering if I need a trim at all.

I've done SMT's, coconut milk soaks and sealed my ends with coconut oil. It honestly has made all the difference. I think I'll still go for a trim since it will help with splits but I don't think I need quite as much off as originally thought.
