Hello everyone! I am new here, and this is my first post. =P Anyways, I have been dying my hair with Special Effects "blood red" for almost a year now. I love the color but I want something a little more permanent and natural looking. I was wondering if anyone has used Henna over Special Effects(or manic panic, etc) hair dye? I'm very curious to see how it will turn out. :magic:

Well, I had special effects in my hair, bleached it, dyed over it, then hennaed. xD It was still sonic green after I lightened it though.
It should be fine, but henna won't make it natural. It'll darken it, because it only deposits color, but I'm not sure if it'll look anywhere near natural. It'll probably be pretty though!
God I miss Special Effects...

Hypnotica mixes her henna with either Special Effects or Manic Panic (Forget which) and it comes out this AWESOME shade of red.

I LOVE sonic green! it's such a pretty color! When I used to dye my hair with manic panic, I let the red fade to orange once and applied a dark blue. It came out like sonic green but it only lasted for a weekend before it turned into a nasty khaki green! I had to bleach it out :( my hair was also still green afterwards. I can't find special effects in stores anymore. They used to sell it at hottopic, however, it was discontinued. I bought my last 3 bottles online.

Newbury Comics sells it even cheaper than hot topic. And was it really dicontinued?
I liked sonic green the first time I used it and it faded out to this pretty teal color, then silver after i dyed over it with a blue that didn't work. The seond I tried to get rid of it and dyed over with brown and had swamp hair. D:
My favorite special effects color will forever be virgin rose. <3

I've never heard of Newbury Comics. Maybe I should look it up :) Swamp hair is terrible! I'm sorry to hear that. I feel your pain. Virgin rose is indeed a beautiful color. And no, they didn't discontinue special effects as far as I know...however, they don't sell it at Hot Topic anymore.

I meant at hot topic. Last time I went the closest one to me had a stock of it. Not a great selection since they never do, but okay.

I used henna over faded Vampire Red. Only the ends had been bleached, so the Manic Panic was less faded on the ends, and the ends were still a slightly different color after my first henna application. I did my second henna application a little over a week ago, and the ends are pretty much entirely blended in.

I henna'd back in December over Manic Panic and Special Effects. I had a streak of green and a streak of purple, along with chemically dyed rest of my hair. It turned out really well, and you could still see some purple/green when I was in the sun (which I liked).
Since your hair is red already, henna will look great and vibrant.
Good luck and post pictures!
