View Full Version : ACV problem - tangle town!

I washed my hair yesterday, and had a SMT as well - and I finished off the washing with a nice ACV rinse. So my hair should have been happy today. But is it? Not a bit. :( Tangles, tangles everywhere - all the way from the roots! Usually when I get tangles, it is on the ends, or at least the length.
I suspect it is the ACV that was the problem. I've used vinegar before, with happy hair as a result, but that was white vinegar.
Have anybody else had this problem with vinegar rinses?

How did you detangle? What did you use? Did you use a leave-in? How did you dry? Did you use any replacement ingredients in your SMT? Different brands? There really isn't that much difference between apple cider vinegar and white vinegar.

There are plenty of reasons for tangled hair. Try to narrow down all of the factors/conditions that could have been different from successful usages of vinegar.

The only new thing I did or used this time was the ACV - so that sort of stands out as the culprit.

No products used in addition to the ACV?

Anyhow, there have been some reports that ACV can leave a slight residue.

Tangles can also come from overtreated hair. May appear suddenly.

What was the ACV to water ratio? I'd use less ACV next time.

I wouldn't necessarily blame the ACV itself, but look at dilution ratio perhaps? When I use too much ACV to water, my hair tends to tangle a bit more. These days I use approx 70ml ACV in an old 600ml coke bottle (about an inch of ACV in the bottom of the bottle), add approx 6 drops Lavender EO, then top with lukewarm water. I leave it on a few mins, then give it a light rinse, and have had no problems with it since using this mix. I have also found my hair does not like an ACV rinse without the light rinse afterwards, tends to get a bit flyaway...what was your exact method?

I was using one and half teaspoonfuls in a 4 dl bottle of cold water.
Well, my problem is solved - I decided to move up my hennaing a bit, so my hair is shiny and happy again )thank you, Lawsonia Inermis! :smooch: )

maybe try using distilled water with the acv next time if you used regular tap water. Also you could try combing with the acv still in your hair before final rinse. makes hair really smooth and even easier to comb after shower

Try another sour rinse. If the ACV is the thing to blame here, then the result will be different.
