View Full Version : How big can it get?

So, inspired by the thread ' Curlies: brush your hair' tread, why don't we take it a step further and see, how big can it get. You can do whatever you want; as long as it is your own hair. I am talking Brushing, teezing, whichever tricks you can think of. The bigger, the better. :D

I know a lot of people are not crazy about teezing and such, and please, do not ruin your hair for the sake of a thread. But wouldn't it be fun to see just how big and crazy it can get? They do say that big is beautiful. Maybe we would even feel better on our bad hair days. :silly:

Since I have to look professional for work both today and tomorrow, I can't upload a picture until sunday. But I promise I will post it, and I hope there are some other brave ladies out there who are with me. :p

Tips for getting bigger:
- Braidwaves for the straighties
- Teasing
- Brusing upside down
- Really small/tight braids when wet
- Poofy dreadlocks
- Feel free to share other tips, and I will add them to the list. :)

I'm wearing my hair up for five months. But after that, I'm on it!

You don't have to wear it outside, if I did that, people would think they were shooting for a horror movie! :p I just meant getting it as big as you can, take a picture and then wash it if you want. :)

I think we can even the playing field by comparing INDIVIDUAL heads of hair before and after. :D Anyway, as a curly, I kinda want to learn how straighties achieve volume and what they consider "volumized". Straight hair is a mystery to me but I'm always happy to learn more about hair.

Aw, you look cute as a bug both ways! And as a straightie, well, nothing I do to add volume will work. Bun waves are helpful for about half an hour:( So I love myself as I am and work on "volume of the soul"!

Lol, good memories, I hope!

I have a weird face that must be the perfect sort of generically round and dimply. I look like a lot of best friends/aunts/cousins. :D Odd part is that I always remind people of someone who made them happy.

I think that's super cool.

So, after you curlies have gone big, how do you get your hair into smooth curls again? I'm guessing maybe you gently work oil or product in from the tips up? It just looks like it would tangle really easily.

Shower.

Really. The only way out is drenching.

The curls, they always win.

ETA: I think A LOT about what it must have been like to be a curly in the years before indoor plumbing and commercially available conditioners. My guess is that most of them just have heavily oiled, frizzy braids. I sort of think that's where a lot of the negative sentiment about curls come from. For years, there was no way to make curly hair beautiful, except on the rare wash day. If that was the case, I sorta wouldn't want it for my kid, either. /ramble

Yes, the 2s should be delivering some amazing beach hair and sexy model waves.

I'm waiting....

Wow, I can't wait to see more responses and pictures. I'm on vacation right now so I won't really have time to do it for a while (it takes a long time for my thinish hair to look even remotely voluminous) but when I get home I'll take a picture of my "Hermione hair." Last time I did it I separated my hair into 6 french braids while it was just the tiniest bit damp and I left them in overnight. When I woke up and took it out my hair just looked really kinky, but the second I took a bbb to it... POOF! It wasn't a look I would want to wear outside of the house but it was fun to play with.

I think I already put this in the "curlies: brush your hair" thread, but I'm always laughing over this: http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/picture.php?albumid=6029&pictureid=98322

It's not as big as it can get, but close. Someday I'll post a pic where I've done everything to make it as big as possible! :D

well, I"m pretty sure that if I stuck one finger in the electric socket and another in the fish bowl, I could have really big hair! Might look a bit creepy though - what with the singed look going on...
