View Full Version : Any dry haired folks using Cassia with success?

I'm really curious about cassia, but I'm a little worried about possible drying effects. I have VERY DRY hair at baseline, much worse at the ends. It's like a conveyor belt of split ends as I'm growing out some heat damage. I've been heat free for going on 2 years now, am doing better with shea butter (panacea), olive oiling and weekly deep treatments but it's still a battle to keep moisture in my hair. Anyone else with a similar dry hair type have cassia experience? Did you have to do extra moisture? Were the thickening/strengthening effects worth it? Are the "drying" effects permanent like the "dying" effects of henna are?

PS, I don't wish to use henna because I don't want to change my hair color. I understand that both herbs can have some curl relaxing effects; I'm totally OK with that if it is a good hair strengthener.

Yes Cassia is drying. But here is my experience with it: A "bring my hair back to life" treatment (http://adelinahair.blogspot.com/2012/05/bring-my-hair-back-to-life-treatment.html) (I had to follow quite a few steps to make sure Cassia didn't dry out my hair). In the end it made my hair look much better. Here is a photo (in the middle I was dealing with protein overload and in the bottom row the first photo on the left is after Cassia):

I'm pretty sure it worked exactly the same as henna (strengthening, thickening, making hair easier to detangle/slippery, adding much wanted shine, etc.).
After cassia I did hot coconut oil treatments (http://adelinahair.blogspot.com/2012/07/hot-coconut-oil-treatment.html) and they really made my hair feel better too. Good luck!

I also have quite dry hair on the ends (over-bleached) but I still think Cassia is worth it for the strengthening effects. I've used Cassia 3-times now and I've fallen in love with its effects each time.
But it might be different for someone who hasn't dyed/bleached their hair because that process removes molecules from your hair, whereas Cassia puts them back in.
