Do any of you make your own hair sticks? I have never seen any here in NZ and it's pretty frustrating.

I made myself one today and it turned out well...I just don't know why you can't buy them here? Lack of demand?(sigh)

Oh, most people buy them online. There are always some coming up on the swap board, or have you tried ETSY.

But making your own should be awesome. There is a whole thread called self made hair toys. You should check that out.

I got mine from Etsy - I've never seen them in NZ either, but it wasn't a major drama to get them. I think I got 3, shipped here for like NZ$30 or something

I nearly-never see them for sale in physical shops either, I buy mine online. If you're interested in making your own though, the Self Made Hairtoys thread (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=131) is a wealth of information. :)

I make my own all the time - I am such an addict that I buy a lot of them online and make my own. I buy the materials from the US, however, as I have not found the bone sticks I use as base anywhere else. I suppose you could buy them of e-bay. Apart from that, you need beads, a sturdy pin - something like a hat pin would do, and epoxy glue. And imagination :).

Is there a Chinese section in the city? If so I have found places selling childrens chopsticks and they are perfect for a basic hair stick. Plus you get two for around $5.

Edit:

p.s. ebay has a ton of sellers from hong kong and china with free shipping

Thanks Didrush and Silverbrumby. I do have some old wooden chopsticks. I made a hairstick today and am pleased with it-

Since I can't afford the crazy prices of hair toys, I do indeed make my own wooden hair sticks! Quite simple to do actually and can be fun, you know you can always make another, and you'll always get the perfect hair stick as you yourself designed it!
