The Long Hair Village (http://blog.chinatraveldepot.com/2011/08/huangluo-yao-village/)

I don't really like the superficial idea of choosing the "most beautiful girl in the village" and "choosing bridegroom" activities but I would love to see all the longhairs and they generally seem to have a very positive view of life. :)

Whats up with the lady in the back holding two chunks of hair? Are they brushing to cut it off? They do have lovely costumes and hair!

In another article (http://www.chinaodysseytours.com/guilin/longji-huangluo-yao-village.html) they say that:

"According to local tradition, women cut their hair only once in their lives ― at about 16 to 18 years old when they are considered ready for adulthood and marriage. The cut hair is kept like a headpiece, and twisted into part of their regular hairdo."

Maybe that's why she holds two chunks that seems to have been cut off?

I would love to visit that village. They'd probably think I was a weirdo since I'd stare at their hair and clothes non-stop.

It also sounds like an interesting way of life but I wonder if the other ladies are jealous of the prettiest one getting all that attention from the men.

Cool article, thanks for posting the link!
