Okay, so I've been here for years. A lot of you know me already (Hi I'm back!).

My hair has gotten longer finally after a long struggle dealing with it. Short version of the backstory, I had hypothyroidism and eventually was diagnosed with thyroid cancer so I lost all my hair. It was always fine and mostly straight. It's gotten longer now since I've been growing it from nothing. I use a combination of henna/indigo and a demi-permanent chemical color in blue-black to get my color. The henndigo alone doesn't make it cool blue enough. Here are some old pics of my hair at various lengths before I lost all of my hair, it was thin but I had some and it was straight.

Longest I ever had it, around 16. With henna.

Much shorter, still a weak henna mix around 18-ish.

Air dried, 19 and either henna or faded manic panic.

Now today, almost 22 after I lost all my hair from radiation/thyroid problems and had shaved my head. It's much thicker now too. What happened?!?

Here air dried with a wee bit of gel.

Here I scrunched it with gel/curling cream and used a diffuser on low heat.

Can I call this 2b/2c? I don't have a full on ringlet pattern all the time but I do have a definite wave and some ringlets here and there. I've been using Deva Curl No Poo, Heaven in Hair deep conditioner, and their spray gel/curling cream. All sulfate/paraben/silicone-free. I'm a stylist so I get a discount ^.^

I've heard that going through cancer treatment can change your hairtype, anyone else have stories for me or did my hair just decide to be crazy one day? Either way I like it, I always wanted wurly hair :cloud9:

Yeah you can! I see some ringlets too. You're a full blown wavy now! Looks gorgeous :)

I love the waves you've now grown! I hope they stay :) And I like the black the best especially with your complexion, I've always wanted to go black.

You could very well be a 3a. I bet when it grows out the spirals will show up because they will have enough length to complete themselves. And I think it was straighter before because of the henna. My hair looked like yours when it was that short.

I have a friend who went through something similar. When her hair starting growing back, she had full on ringlets! Her hair was straight as a ruler before. The hair volume didn't change. It was pretty awesome. :) She had to go through another set of treatment when the cancer came back a couple years later, and this time it grew back with only the slightest wave to it.

I have heard of this change. I think your hair looks gorgeus now!! My hair has lost its curl so to gain curl is fantastic in my book! You can have the best of both worlds! :)

First off, congratulations on beating the cancer and I hope you continue to maintain your health and have a long happy life! :D

Secondly, if my hair suddenly decided to do that, I think I'd be very happy! It's gorgeous!

This isn't uncommon at all. I've seen it happen to people I knew who grew back after cancer. You may find that your hair type settles back down again over time, or not. I'd say you're about 2b now. Congratulations on beating cancer, and welcome back to LHC!

Congrats on your big win! Hopefully it stays away.

My hair changed type and I didn't have cancer. It didn't even happen when I shaved my head. It just happened over time. As a teen, I had very straight hair. Now I have very wavy hair. Celebrate your 'new' wavy hair!

Congratulations on getting through the cancer! :D I have heard of people changing hair type, texture, & even color after cancer treatments.

It's a little hard to properly hair type shorter hair. For now I'd say you're in the 2's somewhere. When you gain a little more length and take a proper hair typing picture it'll be easier to nail down a more definite answer. :)

Way to kick cancer's ass!!:luke: Your hair is so cool, love the colour you got it to go in the first pic (the black is nice too :P). So funny how it changed types though :hmm:

when my hair came back after chemo, it was very curly! I had ringlets all over the place lol!! I loved it!! but as my hair grew it got straighter, it has some wave to it and even a little curl but as soon as I comb it, all that goes away, until I braid it for bed then i get braid waves ;)
