In my attempt to find the best way to curl my hair (I cannot speak to how well these techniques will work on anyone else) I have perused the boards for no heat hair curling techniques and I thought I would post my results. I plan on using a different technique each week and posting here the results. If you would like to take the journey with me that is great if not enjoy the pics of my hair curled (or not so curled)

So without further ado: my first experiment was sock curls (not sock bun curls) I rolled my hair in 5 socks (three down the back and one on each side) and slept on it. I didn't really have any trouble sleeping although my top sock pulled a little if I slept on my right side. and this is the result:

I would have to classify this experiment as a fail because The curls lasted all of an hour and a half.

I tried to do the "cocoonies" curling method from http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RAPHSAPshJE I have determined that my hair is just to silky for them to work. I tried using both water and aloe gel neither helped. So for me this was a definite failed experiment.

WOW I have never seen that but can see how it would not stay in place very long. Interesting...

They look lovely, too bad it lasted such a short time. My younger sister has such straight silky hair that the only way she gets curls to stay in is a curling iron & tons of hairspray! I'll look forward to your experiments so I can pass on any successes to her. :D

Ah, that's too bad they didn't last very long! Do you have instructions or a picture of what the process looks like? I'm having trouble visualizing it, but I'd love to try it.

Did you use any water or spray? I set mine in sock curls all the time and they're darn near indestructible, whereas when I used to use a curling iron they would drop really fast despite doing all the right things.

I spray my hair very lightly with a mister before rolling, cover the whole thing with a silk scarf and sleep on it (or if I'm in a hurry, use a hairdryer gently on the outside of the scarf making sure it doesn't get too hot then allow it to cool fully).

Here is how silly the set looks

and here is how it looks brushed out

You can have lots of fun adding finger waves and rollers like I did here too!

Perhaps a setting spray might help with staying power? An old fashioned DIY one is a little vinegar or wine and honey dissolved in water. Hope this helps!

I spray a little water or use aloe gel. I will not use hairspray because I will have to wash it out that night and because I set my hair over night the day I wash my hair or at latest the next day I don't like having to wash it again the day after washing.

I love the waves and your length. Very pretty.

Hmmm, perhaps a wet roller set might be something to try then - you roll your hair when it's completely wet instead of misted. I've tried this with rag/sock curls too but it never dries, so rollers are where it's at for that approach .

I agree with you about hairspray too - it makes me feel kind of gross and grubby. My mister just has herb tea and a couple of drops of mineral oil in it (plus EOs for perfume).

Even if it doesn't work, you still have gorgeous hair anyway :D.

Nobody else has said it yet, but the overall form of those curls look really natural! :)
