View Full Version : Most unusual or unique hair toys

Good morning everyone,

I hope this isn't an ongoing or previously posted thread, but I want to ask the question: What are your most unusual or unique hair toys - photos please?

Since I am new and have never posted a photo before, I will be replying to my own message, showing a few of my most-recently purchased and unusual hair toys. That is, if my instructions to share a photo work.

I look forward to being able to include photos in my next posting on this thread.

Stay cool and have a great day.

Cheers,

Rowan Will-o'

I have some really beautiful Kanzashi that I ordered via Hanatsukuri on deviantArt. She made them specially for me.

Those are lovely, I especially like the crane hair clip :)

I only have a few simple hair toys, I guess this would be the most "unusual", although it's not very flashy: http://www.etsy.com/transaction/54101485

Unfortunately I don't have a picture of me wearing that. I never had the time to take one back when the albums were working.

These are three of my most unique pieces, which are pony tail holders, - two in Sterling Silver and one in copper. I have not seen this type of hair toy very often. There is one for sale on the Internet in Sterling with no stones, that the listed price is $700. I much prefer mine, which didn't cost anywhere near that amount.

Cheers,

I love the leaf hair slide. I have one - probably from the same seller in green, which is really neat. Cheers, Rowan Will-o'

I put a message with each photo as I was downloading or uploading, which didn't come through. The bottom two photos are Native American Navajo, and the last one is probably of a new vintage than the other, which is from the 40s or 50s most likely. They are both Sterling Silver, and the top photo is copper.

Cheers,

Thank you! I love that one too. I keep meaning to get photos of me wearing my kanzashi, but I'm the best photographer I know....

That is a gorgeous hair toy! Oh my that would look so pretty in autumn.

I recently got a glass jellyfish one off of etsy myself: https://www.etsy.com/transaction/86236694. I want to wear this to the aquarium one day!

I've always loved kanzashi and when I found hanatsukuri on dA I had to watch her. Eventually I decided I had to have one and since then she has been doing custom orders for me every time. She has some really beautiful other ideas too if you would like to look at them: http://hanatsukuri.deviantart.com/. Her stuff isn't wallet breaking expensive either.

This is another hair toy, which was ordered on eBay from China. I haven't received it yet, but it should be arriving today or tomorrow - can't wait. It is a rare type of jade, called Hetian jade.

ANTIQUE CHINESE HETIAN JADE CARVED PHOENIX HAIRPIN was the description. I may have been taken, though, as it was not the only one available in the exact same carving, so since it is called antique, I have my doubts because it is not "UNIQUE" and it may not be all that antique, but it is unusual.

Cheers,

It's gorgeous! And hey I like seeing unusual as well as "unique". After all unique doesn't mean OOAK! I must admit though I'm a sucker for jade >w<

Not my hair - stock photo from eBay. My hair is coppery red, but it does go well with it. I did mention in the message that got deleted when I posted the photo that it was not my head. Cheers, Rowan Will-o'

Oh haha I'm sure it looks beautiful in your hair too! My mother is a natural red head and red is a very pretty color of hair.

This is a turquoise hair stick, which works with one of my pony tail holders that was not pictured earlier. It also has turquoise in the barrette, but the stick is plain silver, and fits very tightly. This stick actually fits much better, and has the additional benefit of the turquoise.

I have never seen those type of pony tail holders Rowan Will-o, they are very beautiful. Do you collect antique hair toys btw?

Demi-Plum, I've seen those too on etsy; they and the octopus sticks from the other seller (can't remember the name right now) are adorable :)

We're neighbors by state. I live just twenty minutes from the Ohio border, and we both joined the Community the same month. What a nice coincidence. Yes, it would be lovely to have photos of you modeling your pretties.

Sorry my photos are so small, but I took them from eBay, so I was stuck with that size. I am going to start photographing my hair toys, and see how they turn out when I put them on the forum.

Yes, I certainly do collect antique hair toys. One recently purchased from eBay was quite inexpensive - a Victorian mourning barrette with black glass balls attached to a horn clasp, which was quite unusual.

One of the most expensive hair toys I ever bought was a 14k gold barrette with small pearls, which I have yet to wear. I wanted something in gold, as I added significantly to my gold collection of jewelry when I was serving in Saudi Arabia, which I don't get all that much of a chance to wear in East Central Indiana.

Another favorite jewelry type for me is amber, and I bought my first amber barrette a couple of months ago. It was from eBay in a mosaic design.

Cheers, Rowan Will-o'

I love the glass jellyfish from Etsy. I fear this is going to be an expensive thread for me - seeing all the lovely hair toys owned by LHC members.

I bought an unusual hair stick pair last night - of birds on Etsy.
Since I am the membership chair of our local Audubon Society, I couldn't resist and I look forward to wearing them to our next meeting.

Your post reminded me that I purchased four or five faux tortoise mantilla (is that the right word) type hair combs at an antique mall in a nearby town. Seller made me a very good deal as she was wanting to get rid of them, as they were from her collection. One day I will have to try to remember where I put them.

That one is gorgeous! and since it's a small one it shouldn't cost you a ton at all. I really want to get a moon now. I was thinking of getting something like this though: http://www.etsy.com/listing/96756548/cherry-wood-hair-crescent-stick?. A little different. When I get things that I can collect I like to get different kinds of them. That way I don't have 20 of the same kind.

My crescent moon arrived today. The Etsy posting is not like mine, which is a typical crescent, but really nice. The Etsy link you posted, I have seen before. The first impression I have when I look at it is of a duck - (my vivid imagination), and the second impression is of the symbol of the Former Soviet Union. Weird the way my mind sees images that aren't really there. Cheers, Rowan Will-o'
