Has anyone ever used tomato sauce in the hair for lightening?? Does it work? I was thinking to try tomato sauce cardamom powder and turmeric together to lighten some of my length but I dont know if it would work.
I did lighten my hair up abit with tomato honey and evoo but I dont have enough honey and evoo for another treatment so im trying to see if I can do a treatment without the honey and evoo. Any suggestions??

Sounds like it would counteract green nicely but turn any kind of blonde orange! Particularly turmeric, that stuff stains fiercely.
I'll be interested to see if anyone has tried such a mix.

Would it stain temporarily (the turmeric, that is), or would it stick around like a box dye? I might actually try it :D

I might be concerned with the acid in the tomato sauce damaging my hair.

I doubt it would work that well.

In my many, many hours of henndigo lightening research, I found one person who said tomato sauce worked and the rest who tried it said it didn't work. Who knows, it might work for you ad it most likely won't do much, if any, damage.

It worked for me but I was just wondering if it would work alone without honey and evoo or not.

I've tried tomarto sauce as in the jar ones and it lightened a little bit, tomartoes release a natural peroxide the same as honey does, the acid in it is no different than vinegar, however although over time it would work the smell is nauseating and for the time it would take to lighten its not worth it.
Vitamin c crystalls. Mixed in shampoo are none damaging and help pull colour out of the hair and also I'd think citric acid in conditioner would overtime lighten hair but may be drying. Honey has been the most successful in gradually lightening hair from my experience.

Tis is true also, also people who used dye prior to hendigo for sme reason had more success.

I may have made this up but isn't turnmeric a growth inhibitor?

Now, Jojo are you saying that citric acid would result in lightening hair? I use the citric acid rinses, and I don't want this affect. Can you reference where this info comes from because I need to read more.

You'll be looking at a very yellow colour, tiny pinches used sparingly can give golden highlights but too much and you will be warning sign, comedy yellow. It isn't permanent on most hair, but on hair with a damaged cuticle or very pale base can permenently stain.

Apparently it has been shown to prevent hair loss in rats (HairLossResearch.org have a few studies on it) but in Humans nothing has been recorded either way as far as I can see.
If I were going for highlights I'd go for honey for gradual lightening.
Or I used to use lemon rinses then go out in the sun deliberately for more dramatic change, kind of a natural sun-in effect.
For golden highlights, I'd go for cassia. Dependable predictable and conditioning.

Tomato sauce, tumeric, and cardamom sounds delicious! :stirpot:
But it doesn't sound like something I would put in my hair (unless I got sprayed by a skunk :tbear:).

I've been also trying lemon juice and conditioner to lighten my hair in the sun as I am on the beach every day for the summer and so far nothing changed!! I even think that my henna got redder than before:rolleyes:

I've used tomato sauce (plain) on my hair. I had over bleached it and sections looked too ashy grey colored.
The tomato juice worked great to add brightness and hide some of the ash. Even more effective was rinsing with Coca Cola after the tomato sauce (then condish afterward). It adds even more of the effect. (Btw, it has to be regular Coke, not diet or Cherry Coke, etc.).
I'm guessing it is a combo of the acidity plus the red in the tomato sauce and the caramel coloring in the Coke.
It's not a permanent solution, but works great until the bits grow out and can be trimmed away. I did it approximately 1 x per month and it did not cause any damage or undo dryness.
As far as the tomato sauce or Coke lightening my hair? No. I have lightened my hair with: honey, frequent hot (as in very warm) olive oil soaks (for hours). Additionally, I have found that for my hair, using Ojon's treatment (the oily stuff in a jar) on my hair overnight also lightens my hair a little.

Oh, and the lightening I got through the hot/warm olive oil and the honey treatments were not something noticeable after just one application. It took time and patience. And did I mention, time? ;) It's lightening I achieved after consistently using these treatments weekly for several months.

Rinses are very different to using in a deep conditioner...time is the key! Your not going to leave a rinse on for hours, so no danger!

I didn't add anything.
I just squeezed a few lemons, tipped my head over (you dont want to get it on your scalp/face) and combed it through dry hair, then went and sat in the sunshine untill it was dry.
No conditioner, and the heat and the sunlight was enough to lift a shade a day. I went all the way from darkest auburn/black to copper/ginger like this one summer.

It lightnend my hair like before. It took off alot of indigo and henna but I still got tons of layers of that stuff so its going to take alot of these treatments to finally see it go away forever. But yeah it worked again. Yay!

Ooops, sorry, we are totally on opposite timeframes! The lemon makes your hair feel clumpy, it's not too pleasant but it does work.
Glad the treatments you are doing are working for you!
I could not stomach the smell of ketchup long enough to remove my indigo green patches!

This is the lightening I achieved with 2 honey treatments,,2 tomato sauce treatments and 2 lemon in the sun treatments,,,as you can see the indigo on the bottom is not letting go but it has faded some,,its not as black as it used to be. and I use john friedas go blonder with vitamin c tablets.
tips compared to the top in the pic

this one is my ends and the top,,the ends are getting warmer but its still not the same color,,thats the only problem with doing these treatments is the part with the less indigo and henna is the first to lighten up the fastest:(

Lemon juice doesnt work that way. You need UV light from daylight for the lightening to take effect. And when it does, it isnt anything compared to a chemical bleach either. It will take time.

wow, interesting post! I wouldn't put the turmeric, just because I know how it stains things, and I would worry it would turn your hair orange (unless you wanted that!) I have had great success with honey lightening :)
