The most important ingredient is PATIENCE, lol. Gentle washes, good conditioning, regular oilings, no heat styling. That's to keep it healthy. As far as growth rate, you cannot fight genetics, but proper nutrition, regular exercise, no smoking etc cannot hurt.

Totally agree with this. ^^ There's nothing miraculous about it.

Yes, as already stated, just treat it right.
Grow your hair from the inside out, if that makes sense to you.
Eat healthily, drink plenty of water, throw in a well balanced supplement, and get exercise.
There are some things you can do to maybe grow faster, but usually its hardly a difference. Some toy with using monistat. It just wasn't for me though. Some like to overdose themselves on supplements that hardly make a difference. I will never understand this.
I like to do scalp massages with oils that supposedly help grow longer. I make a mixture of castor oil, SAO, tea tree oil, rosemary EO, lavender EO, and some peppermint EO. It is nice and stimulating and many have had increased growth with castor oil. I adore using Indian oils and herbs too. They are wonderful. Henna also is something I love to use that strengthens my hair greatly. :)
This is all about patience, trial, and error. You learn what your hair likes and doesn't, and try to enjoy the journey as much as you possibly can because it makes it easier.

As has been said, patience is paramount! On average, hair grows 1/2 an inch per month. Some people grow slower, some faster.
Generally speaking:
1) A good diet is essential. Drink plenty of water. Exercise
2) Wear your hair up to protect the delicate ends
3) Also, you might want to consider using a silk pillowcase to
protect the ends
4) Avoid blow drying/hot curlers/straightening/chemicals
5) Use gentle shampoos and conditioners
6) Only wash your hair when it needs it!
7) Keep to a minimum the stuff you put on your hair. The more stuff on your hair, the more lint it attracts.
8) Find a routine you like and stay with it!
9) Try scalp massage (in the bent position) to help with hair growth
10) I believe in daily brushing with a pure boar bristle brush (provided you are not a curly).
11) Keep your hair implements squeaky clean
12) Avoid ponytails if at all possible. Also stay away from any non-friendly hair elastics or toys
13) As your hair grows, learn how to style it in different ways.
14) Give your ends a trim every 3 to 4 months. You might also want to look into S and D (search and destroy) for any damaged ends.
Good luck!
