Boredom led to experiment yesterday and I decided to take pics in case it turned out ok. Here are the results:
Step one: High piggies

Step two: braid the piggies

Step 3: Partially bun: I realized they were crooked after I took this pic and I fixed it before I moved on) secured with spin pins (2 small ones each)

Step 4: Cross the braids and attach to opposite bun. Finished! In the last pic I added a band because I have to wear one at work. I wore this at work for 6 hours. I was honestly surprised it stayed.

I sized all the pics to the same height before uploading them to photobucket. I checked my files and I have no idea why some of them are huge, they all say they are the same height in the file properties. Photobucket is NOT my friend and my photo software on my PC is being dumb, too. So...SORRY. They were all supposed to be the size of the first picture. GRRR.

ETA: Wow, the pics sizes magically fixed themselves. LOL. Whatever!

I like it! It makes double buns look so elegant (normally I think of them as more playful than elegant). Next time I do them I might try something like this.

oooooh pretty! love the high piggies. I actually wore my hair like that yesterday... had every intention of bunning them, but was running late for work w/ my 4 yr old underfoot and never did... just left them like that all day. I'll have to remember this for next time, when I actually DO bun them.

I love it, it fits you so well! Very feminine and classic :) I can imagine the ladies in the past doing that-- I'll have to try when my hair's longer!

That's so pretty! I have to wait for more length (a lot more length!) but I'll have to try and remember. Thanks for the inspiration!

Moxamoll I could have easily done this with much less hair. Probably 6 or so inches less.

I don't think it looks right on me, people at work gave me odd stares and no one said anything to me. Not even a "that's different" comment. LOL. DH thought they were pretty, but he thinks I am pretty no matter what horrid state my hair is in.

I wish I could wear the pigtails but they take on a mind of their own as soon as I turn my head. Just getting into position to take the photo made them look horrible. My hair has a mind of its own and wraps around my torso and tangles super fast. I will take a "real" pic of the same pigtails later when my hair dries (it's Wednesday=wash day).

Very pretty! I'm always afraid anything that might dangle will get into trouble, but that looks really nice.

Well, I think they are lovely, but I do understand feeling that something just doesn't quite fit you. Sometimes you just have to try something a few times before it starts to feel "you" but only you can know if that is worth your time and energy.

I'd wear that updo on a hot summer day. Cute!! I wouldn't wear it to work, except maybe if they know me fairly well and it's casual Friday, and no expectation of visitors showing up. If one is not good at the crossing of the braids, you can alternatively just make two braided buns by continuing to spin the braids round on each side.

And WaitingsoLong, you have lovely hair. Very nice. Keep up the good work.

What a great idea! It looks so cool, I don't understand why you didn't even get one compliment. Your hair is breathtaking.

It reminds me of a style Princess Leia would wear.

I really want to try it after my wash today. Do you think it's better to do with dry or damp hair?

Very cute! You did a great job and I think they look really nice on you.

When I first joined LHC and was constantly putting my hair up in new do's, most days my coworkers wouldn't say a word to me about my hair either

I did it with my hair dry, not sure about damp hair.

The only time my coworkers have said anything is the day I wore it in a braid "down". It was a rare exception, though, requirements are to keep it up and that day was different.

Plus I took it down once at the end of the day when we were clocking out because I had a hair headache. I try NEVER to do that, the comments are...urgh...

:justy:Gah, people just don't get how awesome long hair is! It's too bad you have to deal with coworkers like that, I'm sorry :(

It's gorgeous! I really want to try this.

By the way, the photos are all the same size, which you can probably see now. It has to do with the way photobucket (and most other sites, really) does cookies and how it interacts with your computer, so if you upload a photo and then resize it, it really will resize - so it shows up correctly for everyone else - but your computer will just keep showing you the original size instead. Usually I hit CTRL+F5 (also known as a hard refresh, which forces the computer to ignore your local cache and retrieve a whole new page from the server) and it fixes itself. This (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Bypass_your_cache) explains it a little better.

That is interesting!

I resize all my photos on my PC before uploading them to photobucket because I don't like PB's resize tool.
