Who are your hair inspirations?

I'm sure this has been asked before but I hope people won't mind discussing it. I am very inspired and have a long fascination with archaic hairstyles from Rome and Greece, as well as the Renaissance and pretty much every era in between. After the 1920s of course the flapper cut came in and long hair on women became less mainstream since then (at least in 'Western' countries).

A couple of my inspirations from history are Simonetta Vespucci (on my avatar and often held to be the model in Botticelli's Birth of Venus painting) and the Mexican painter Frida Kahlo, who chose to wear her hair and accessories from the Pre-columbian period.

I think in general though I am always inspired when I see someone with healthy long hair - it just makes my head turn and I have no favourite colour or texture, I think the diversity of natural hair beauty is intriguing. Who are your inspirations?

I love the Arthurian legends and always pictured Elaine and Guinevere with long flowing hair.
It might sound cliché but I have always wanted “princess” hair.
Recently I have been feeling frustrated with how slowly my hair is growing (my goal is hip and I’m stuck at BSL) then I found this picture of Arwen from Lord of the Rings: http://i858.photobucket.com/albums/ab148/Vav_2009/Arwen_hair.jpg
And I knew no matter how long it takes my hair is going to look like that one day.

Empress Elisabeth of Austria! She had incredible, very long chestnut hair, that she wore in incredible braided hairstyles.

Oh Madora YES! I was reading about her hair not long ago - truly magnificent. Your avatar pic is now one of my inspirations - what a lovely shiny braided updo. I will have a bit of a wait yet before I can attempt all these braided styles, but already this board gives me hope at what I can look forward to! ;)

That sounds really pretty, Jacqueline - you have lovely bone structure, I bet the bangs really compliment your eyes! Not everyone can do the Hepburn look :)
