View Full Version : How often do you wash your hair?

July 3rd, 2012, 01:03 AM
Its once a week for me, very occasionally twice.:)

July 3rd, 2012, 01:16 AM
Every 2-3 days, sometimes longer but that has more to do with me having a baby.

July 3rd, 2012, 01:17 AM
I wash everyday or every other day. I tried washing twice a week for a month but I couldn't take it anymore lol I was on house arrest because my hair was so greasy.

July 3rd, 2012, 01:28 AM
I do mine every other day or every third day, depending on how fast the greasies come back.

There are occasions when I'll go 4 or 5 days without washing out of laziness and because my work days just happen to fall right. Can't be lazy if I have to be seen at work. :D

But when I do that, my hair gets REALLY bad. As in... so bad that I just keep it bunned up and can't even get a wide toothed comb through it without going VERY slowly and being VERY patient, because the grease has melded my strands together like glue.

When I was growing up, until I hit 16 and got my first job, I wasn't allowed to wash my hair more than once a week. Consequently, I had very gross hair for most of the time. I learned to hide it with braids and buns, but there was much teasing from my peers because of it.

So... stretching washes will never work for me. Never. Already tried that mandatorily, and it clearly did not work.

July 3rd, 2012, 01:50 AM
Every second day, but less out of neccessity and more because I love doing it.

July 3rd, 2012, 01:54 AM
Every 2-4 days.

July 3rd, 2012, 02:46 AM
Lately every 3-4 days. I'd love to stretch washes more, so I'm hoping this new schedule will stick lol.

July 3rd, 2012, 02:48 AM
Once a week and CO every day.

July 3rd, 2012, 02:53 AM
About once a week now.

July 3rd, 2012, 03:04 AM
Twice a week typically.

July 3rd, 2012, 03:08 AM
I've just started washing M W F, 3 times/week. I CO wash, clarifying once a month.
until i was able to put my hair up, I washed it every day.

July 3rd, 2012, 03:10 AM
Every 3-4 days rather 3. I have pretty gentle shampoo now, when I used SLES shampoos, once a week was enough.

July 3rd, 2012, 03:16 AM
3 times a week when it's hot. 1-2 during cooler months

July 3rd, 2012, 03:22 AM
Twice a week. Because I have sports class once a week, and I go riding once a week, and in both cases I like to wash my hair afterwards. :D When school's out, though, I can go for a week or longer, or wash every two days depending on my mood (and the weather).

July 3rd, 2012, 03:32 AM
Once or twice a week. I take my time when washing, so doing it any more than that would be a ridiculous amount of time :D

July 3rd, 2012, 03:33 AM
2 to 3 times week in summer,in winter every 4/5 days.

July 3rd, 2012, 05:14 AM
I wash my hair every 3 to 4 days. I am trying to stretch to weekly washes. When I came to LHC, I was washing daily to every other day.

July 3rd, 2012, 05:30 AM
I've managed to stretch it to once or twice a week now. :D

July 3rd, 2012, 05:32 AM
I wash twice a week, Mondays and Thrusdays

July 3rd, 2012, 05:55 AM
Right now, one or two times a week. I should probably do it a little ofter, as my greasyness doesn't improve at all, but it takes so long to dry that I have to jump right in the shower after work, so i tend to only do it in the weekends instead.

July 3rd, 2012, 05:59 AM
Every 3 days and I'm perfectly happy with it. (Stretching washes was one of the worst things I tried, if not actually the worst, considering the long term consequences.)

July 3rd, 2012, 06:03 AM
Once a week. I found that by wearing it up and brushing as little as possible allowed me to stretch longer.
When I first came here, at shoulder-APL, I was washing every other day or so. Thanks LHC! :)

July 3rd, 2012, 07:04 AM
Once a week on Friday.

July 3rd, 2012, 07:07 AM
when it needs washing

July 3rd, 2012, 07:08 AM
Twice weekly.

July 3rd, 2012, 07:11 AM
I wash everyday or every other day. I tried washing twice a week for a month but I couldn't take it anymore lol I was on house arrest because my hair was so greasy.

I know exactly how you feel. My hair is thin and fine so it greases up quite easily. I can't even imagine how bad it would look if I just washed it twice a week. I think my hair would be able to style itself at that point, and not the pretty kind either.

July 3rd, 2012, 07:16 AM
Every four days. Sometimes I wish I did it more often to I could experiment more often.

July 3rd, 2012, 07:18 AM
Usually twice a week. More if it needs it, less if it doesn't.

July 3rd, 2012, 07:18 AM
From every other day to a week, depending. I need to wash it much more frequently in the summer.

July 3rd, 2012, 07:29 AM
every 4-5 days in colder winter weather, more frequently in the warmer months.

July 3rd, 2012, 07:33 AM
Mine really varies - from 2 to 4 days. But often I am able to do a WO so I am putting a cleanser on my hair maybe once or twice a week. Not sure what you mean by 'wash' exactly. :)

July 3rd, 2012, 07:47 AM
Once a month.

July 3rd, 2012, 09:25 AM
Right now I'm washing twice a week. That is a big improvement from when I was washing everyday!

czech it out
July 3rd, 2012, 09:41 AM
I still wash mine every day. :lipssealed: I tried to go longer but my scalp gets oily/itchy so quickly! What's a girl to do?

July 3rd, 2012, 10:07 AM
I wash my hair three times a week, but I'm thinking about stretching washes, so I only wash it two times a week.

July 3rd, 2012, 10:13 AM
2-3 times a week, usually 2. I can get away with a lot less when it's colder out.

July 3rd, 2012, 10:15 AM
Every 2-3 days, just depending on how it looks/feels - thanks to my hair color and type, it can go from looking totally normal to looking all "Valdez" (as me and the BF call it) like THAT *snaps fingers*. Lately, thanks to my BBB AND being a lot less heavy-handed with the coconut oil, my standard is 3 days between washes.

FWIW, I do the standard S&C, with SLS-free S&C. CO & WO did NOT work for me. When I used "regular" shampoos, w/ SLS/cones/etc, I absolutely positively HAD to wash every day.

July 3rd, 2012, 10:45 AM
I usually just wash it when it starts to itch or look cruddy. I'm trying to get better at stretching washes, I'm at 3-4 days now. I think once I learn wo techniques I might be able to go longer.

July 3rd, 2012, 10:56 AM
Once a week or usually I wait as long as I possibly can!

July 3rd, 2012, 10:58 AM
I wash my hair every other day or whenever it feels nasty.

July 3rd, 2012, 10:59 AM
Every 2-3 days, depending how lazy I am :P

July 3rd, 2012, 11:06 AM
I CO wash every 2/3 days.

July 3rd, 2012, 11:07 AM
Every 3 days for me. I mean:
day 1: wash
day 2: no
day 3: no
day 4: wash
If I wash more I get splits, if I wash less my hair fall down like leaves in autumn D:

July 3rd, 2012, 11:28 AM
Right now it's CO every 1-2 days. Sulfate free shampoo once a week with deep condition.

July 3rd, 2012, 11:55 AM
I wash mine once a week.

July 3rd, 2012, 11:56 AM
Every other day. When I wait more than three days between washes, my scalp gets very angry.

July 3rd, 2012, 11:57 AM
I have a very irregular wash cycle but, I do wash it at least once a week

July 3rd, 2012, 12:13 PM
about twice a week now. Used to be once a week but it helps untangle sometimes

July 3rd, 2012, 12:29 PM
I wash every other day. I tried stretching my washes for awhile, but then I began to have breakouts along my hairline. I've gone back to every other day and problem solved.

July 3rd, 2012, 12:30 PM
twice a week :)

July 3rd, 2012, 12:31 PM
Every three days usually. :)

July 3rd, 2012, 12:39 PM
When I need too, which is not often at all. I kinda wash once a week but mostly because my ends are dry and I like to keep it conditioned,

July 3rd, 2012, 12:43 PM
I typically wash once a week either Saturday or Sunday. Lately I've been being lazy and stretching it to 2 weeks since I only have time on the weekend. That doesn't work out too well though because my roots get too greasy looking. I can't really feel it, but I can see it.

July 3rd, 2012, 12:58 PM
Every 3 or 4 days, or 5, or 6. :D It depends on whether it needs it and when I can get around to it. Very rarely more often than 3 days, though. It takes me at least that long to get to it.

July 3rd, 2012, 01:57 PM
Every other day..... but I'm working on stretching that. I love mybe shampoo bar so much that stretching washes will be very hard for me though. :)

July 3rd, 2012, 02:04 PM
I wash every 3-4 days. 8)

July 3rd, 2012, 02:39 PM
Every third day.

July 3rd, 2012, 02:50 PM
I wash once a week. I couldn't wash it any more than that because I have to wear my hair down for hours to let it dry and my hair hates being in updos the day of and after a wash.

July 3rd, 2012, 04:49 PM
When I was much younger, I used to wash it once a week (Sundays) but now, I wash it twice a week. Unless special occasion on the horizon of course.
Freshly washed (and dried) are much lighter than the following days and since my hair is fine and silky, I am all fluffy and baby hairs go flowing wild. :eyebrows:

July 3rd, 2012, 06:24 PM
I had got to twice a week and could get away with greasy hair days as my hair was dyed dark, but I've noticed since getting it back to my natural colour it needs washing more often as greasy days really show now, so I tend to wash every other day. But I do like washing my hair so don't mind too much!

July 3rd, 2012, 08:09 PM
Every second day. I rather enjoy it, especially massaging a really creamy conditioner into my hair.

July 3rd, 2012, 08:17 PM
I wash my hair every 2 to 3 days.

July 3rd, 2012, 08:40 PM
1-3 times a week, depends on activities and local temperatures.

July 3rd, 2012, 09:19 PM
2-3 times a week depending on how hard I worked out... Sweaty hair is gross after a day ;-P

July 3rd, 2012, 09:21 PM
I usually wash every other day. If I go 3 days I get a very sore scalp and it's much easier to wash oftener than deal with the soreness. This summer I've been washing 4-5 times a week since it's been so hot. I try to plan for any days when I want to wear it down. It has to be washed that morning in order to be worn down. I don't have a schedule but I do try to plan ahead for 2 or 3 days. I like washing my hair and it's not a chore so it's easy for me to wash an extra time or two a week.

July 4th, 2012, 02:57 PM
Every other day or sometimes I skip 2 days :) I would like to stretch my washes more but I love the feeling of massaging my scalp with shampoo! :o

July 4th, 2012, 03:17 PM
I try to do it only every 3 days, however it depends on the circumstances, sometimes it's every other day and very occasionally I'll do it 2/3 days in a row. If I do that I CO so my hair doesn't start falling out :)

July 5th, 2012, 01:43 AM
I wash twice a week, which seems to be the norm here. I've been trying to stretch my washes but my scalp is naturally very oily so it's been a bit of a struggle. I would love to get down to washing once a month (Madora, you are my inspiration!) but at this point I'd be thrilled to get it to once a week.

July 5th, 2012, 11:09 AM
One a week, but sometimes once every two weeks.

Lady Neeva
July 5th, 2012, 11:11 AM
With cones, every other day. Without, the next.

July 5th, 2012, 11:20 AM
Once a week. And I do a scalp wash. Other wise My scalp would itch.

July 5th, 2012, 11:25 AM
Generally 2-3 times a week.

July 6th, 2012, 01:06 AM
I shower twice a day, so I wish my hair twice a day.

It grosses me out to shower without washing my hair, especially since showering without washing my hair makes my hair frizzier and puffy from the humidity.

I couldn't stand once a week, and since I was every time I shower... yeah. I don't like smelling like earth, so if I go outside that day, I want to wash my hair. When I sleep, there's invariably bed head and/or sweat or natural oil. Ick. I'm a germ phobe. I would rather wash it often and put conditioners and argan oil in it than only wash it once or twice a week.

So, I wash twice a day.

July 6th, 2012, 01:23 AM
I wash 2 or 3 times a week. I don't know what the issue is but first day wash hair is super frizzy and poofy. It takes day two and three before it smoothed down again, and by then its time to wash again :/

July 6th, 2012, 09:32 AM
Usually once or twice a week.

July 6th, 2012, 10:29 AM
As little as I possibly can, but it really depends on what I've been doing. I use braided updo's to get an extra day or 2. I guess between 2 - 3 times a week, but I wish I could go longer without it looking all piecey and greasy at the roots.

July 6th, 2012, 10:29 AM
In the summer I use shampoo 2-3 times a week, and conditioner 4-5 times. In the winter, I use 'poo once or less a week and conditioner every 3 days or so

July 6th, 2012, 11:40 AM
I have been a daily washer for as long as I can remember.. I am currently trying out washing every other day, and just using coconut oil instead of conditioner [oiling nicely at night, and a few drops after washing in the morning]. Just started this morning, so we'll see how long I can go for.. my scalp is really oily, and my hair usually looks gross if I don't wash it every day.. and I like the smell of my hair after washing it... :disco:

July 6th, 2012, 12:03 PM
every other day :)

July 6th, 2012, 02:47 PM
Everyday for me - I'm always walking to and from school and don't feel properly clean unless I've washed my hair :)

July 8th, 2012, 12:41 PM
Once a week, works perfectly for me :)

July 8th, 2012, 12:46 PM
About once per week

July 8th, 2012, 12:52 PM
every 3-4 days. And I do a deep conditioning treatment/oiling treatment once a week :)

July 8th, 2012, 12:56 PM
I wash my hair every 2-3 days.

July 8th, 2012, 01:13 PM
I was daily

I exercise every day, and my scalp gets itchy and stinky if I don't wash my hair afterwards. I know I should be stretching washes, but my hair is also too short to do much with styling wise. When I was using heat, I was able to wash twice a week, style my hair, and leave it. But now that I'm wearing my hair curly, one side of my head gets smushed and flat as I sleep. Hopefully as my hair gets longer I'll find a routine that works a little better.
