I'm having a heck of a time getting the search function to work, so I'm posting to you my fellow long hairs!

I know I've seen some how tos on trimming your own hair. I really need a trim. My ends are splitting faster than Kim Kardashian.

You need Feye's self trimming method, stat! It's the only way I can trim my own hair. Here is a link to the guide on LiveJournal- http://feyeselftrim.livejournal.com/
I use the V-trim method. It's kept me hairdresser free for over a year now :)

If you pick the straight or U method a helpful hint is to use 2 hairties, one towards the nape to stabilise the hair and another at the ends to indicate the cut line.

To keep those splits at bay, you might want to look into catnip rinses:

Mineral oil, aka baby oil, does a great job helping keep your hair moisturized. You only need a few drops, applied to hair that has been clarified. Hair should be damp, not dripping.

MO is also a great detangler!

I'd say the feye self trim method I'm going to try it when my hair is longer. I'd also say sharp scissors are the best.

Habioku has a really useful tutorial on youtube that demonstrates feye's method, if you're more of an audiovisual learner. :)
