I'm experimenting with curly girl to make the most of my waves. I always feel like they are messy, especially at this length. So inspire me please. Show me your beachy waves, natural or braid. Please let me know which they are though.:D

Here's my 1 year anniversary picture:

I put it up in a bun when wet and take it out when it is dry - usually about a day and one night. I get very nice waves and for me they hold all day. :)

Roscata- Your waves are so smooth and shiny. Hopefully mine will after some more cg time.

Racrane- What kind of bun do you do for waves like that? Those are great.

Mine are in my sig pic! :D

Though I did follow that tutorial for getting "beachy waves" using sea salt and oil in a spray bottle. Makes my waves a little more defined, and since I shower at night, it's a great way to revitalize them the next morning if I don't have time for a rinse :)

These waves are braided, but I added some carrot oil to the ends so they are not frizzy...

Natural - this was acctually my hairtyping thread pic. All I did was use clarfying shampoo and refrain from touching.. lol

It didnt even occur to me I was rockin the beachy wave look, but several people pointed it out.

Kind of ironic considering that I grew up at and now live at the beach.. (although I never go)

BTW- since you mention CG - I have found that with a sulfate free shampoo, low or no cone useage and plopping or plunking I can get pretty decent wave defination without the gel... The gel does give a little extra oOmph but so far I can't seem to find one that is alcohal free and doesnt bother my allergies

I agree, I don't even need gel when I want really defined waves. Just some CO washing, coconut oil, and plunking/scrunching.

Oh Yea! I imagine the coconut oil would be fantastic for that! ....too bad my husband has a coconut allergy. He's never get within a 100 yards of me if I did that.. lol

It really is surprisingly! The trick is putting the oil on when my hair is damp. I kind of scrunch it in, then I plunk my hair. It's especially weird because I thought my hair hated coconut oil, but then I found out it LOVES it when I damp oil with it.

Well since coconut oil is pretty solid the water probably helps to disperse / thin it out better... I can totally see how that would make the diffrence...

I'm a little bit of an oil nut... Not from hair use.. can't bring myself to oil my hair... but I'm an LMBT so I'm pretty up on oils... The only time I get a hair "oiling" is when I go to my therapist.. lol

Off topic but have you ever tried apricot kernel oil? I have no idea how it would be for hair but it's fantastic for skin.. It's my favorite go to for bodywork

What's LMBT if I may ask?

And no I never have. =O The lightest oil I ever have tried is jojoba oil, which I use every day on my face as a moisturizer, it's wonderful!

I use jojoba for my face too! It's the best thing ever and just a touch is really all you need. I just take like a drop, warm it up between my hands and Volia!

That sounds like an awesome job!

But yeah, jojoba oil is awesome. Sadly it doesn't do much for my waves, besides help with frizz sometimes lol.

Well these are literally beachy waves, I mean curls. This was almost 10 years ago when my hair was curly.

We were at the seaside, and after I got from the beach, I just washed my hair with water and applied some hair gel. At home my hair always looked like a big frizzy mess no matter what I did.

Well, I'm not completely sure what constitutes beachy waves, heh. But I can get rather nice and relatively natural looking waves from doing a cinnabun while my hair is still damp and leaving it to dry that way:

Natural but encouraged with plopping and a bit of curl cream and some hard hold gel while still wet (Kinky Curly Curling Custard and Biosilk Rock Hard Gelee). I was typed as a 1c here just before going CG, I think I'm still no more than a 1c or 1c/2a without the aid of products.

I also have some literal beach waves to show. Natural, but encouraged by salt water and lack of washing :)

Jojoba is native to america and funnily enough was used by the native americas as a traditional hair oil. When I think of anctient native americans I always think of that really stright hair...

One of the reasons it's so popular for skin care if because it is almost chemically indentical to our natural sebum... but as we all know too much sebum in the hair gives up that "oily" / "greasy" look

@ Ultrabella - I forgot to mention earlier but you're hair is so pretty

I live practically 5 mins drive from the water and I cant find one picture of actual sea water induced waves... at least not before the on set of puberty... lol

It's amazing.. So many people love the beach... I really cant stand it... I think the only reason i'm even considering going at this point is just so I can put it in a bottle to sprits my hair for waves... LOL

My waves a few months ago, but it's the only picture I have of them...

http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-Z4HBVYZD.jpg

They are the result of co-washing, curly cream, lots of gel, plopping, and then leaving them alone until absolutely dry...
