View Full Version : Terminal Length Wisps?

I'm not sure what I have been finding in my hair. We all lose hair every day. The past week or so I've had a larger shed. I've been finding 2-4 inch long hairs from my head (not my face) that have fallen out in my comb or hand.

Now, these hairs have never been cut. The ends are tapered, and have a small dot at the end that came from my scalp. I don't have hair-loss, but I would be lying if I said I wasn't worried.

They are usually coming from my crown. I'm guessing those hairs have a very short terminal length, kinda like baby hairs (but I don't have any of those around my face). Has anyone else found these? If they are baby hairs, I do find it interesting that nature has provided some naturally shorters hairs to give my crown lift. :p

I have some like that but mine are most obvious around my face (they may be hiding in my longer hair elsewhere too). I'm always sad when I see such short hairs shed, I want them to be full length before they go!

I wonder if short terminal length in human hair serves some purpose. When I raised angora rabbits, I discovered that they have shorter, stiffer hairs that serve to loft the fur. More loft = more insulation. Maybe we have those, too.

Anyway, I've also noticed very short - 2 to 4 inches long - shed hairs.

I have those too. I don't think it's anything you need to worry about :)

My bangs shed now and then short hairs.

Ah! Good to know others have this too.
