Now if I brush it with the ball-point brush I've been using for years(going to change that very soon) I will loose nearly all that wave. If I gather it in a pony tail it's between a quarter and half dollar size. About two years ago I got a Razor cut and I've been trying to grow out the layers ever since. About 5 months ago I got a subtle dip-dye to blend in a patch of bleached color at the base of my hair line.

No - not even close. I'd put you at 2A. (ETA - actually, 1C was close)

I'd go 2A too. There's a lot of loose s-waves in there. :)

I think I was going off my brushed out, non wavy hair. Thanks. Off to fix my avatar info.

Oh, should I bump up my hair type classifier to ii? It's not super thin but certainly not bulky.

Measure. You've got long enough hair, and the i vs ii vs iii thing is purely a measurement. Put your hair in a ponytail, and measure the circumference. If you're under 2", you're a i. If you're between 2 and 4", you're a ii. If you're 4" and up, you're a iii.

The measurement is used to help you work out what hairstyles you can do at what length. In general, a i can do stuff first. Where a i might do a cinnabun at shoulder length, a iii can take til well past waist.

(you can go to a more complex system that gives 1" increments instead, since ii ends up being such a large category that a 3.5" ponytail and a 2.1" one have almost no overlap in terms of when they can do various hairstyles... but the simple system covers most situations decently)
