I recently started progesterone cream to fix up my hormones. I think it's making my hair fall out by the fistfuls. Has anyone else experienced this? I'm assuming it's similar to those who have issues with birth control causing hair loss. I honestly don't think the cream is helping any of my symptoms. I often feel worse the two weeks I'm on it.

I have been using the occasional dab of progesterone cream for a few years now when I think my period is going to be late (2 weeks of PMT = not fun).

I wonder if a different brand would help? I use Serenity and it hasn't affected my shed rate. I don't use much though.

STOPPING Progesterone after you have been on it for months will cause some hair loss, however Progesterone DOES NOT cause hair loss.

Progesterone has been shown to have DHT inhibiting effects and is thus used by both men and women, often in the form of topical applications, to combat hair loss. Progesterone creams provide a transdermal method by which levels of the progesterone hormone can be increased at a desired location of the body. Hair loss is not the primary reason for the use of progesterone creams.

The above is one of MANY articles available about it on the internet.

Are you seeing someone who is guiding you through this, or are you self-prescribing?

You need to see someone who works with bio-identical hormones. Bio-identical hormones are nothing like birth control pills.

Birth control pills are simply a man-made chemical compound that is nothing like bio-identical hormones. "Bio-identical" means exactly like what the female human body makes and uses.

Too much estrogen can cause hairloss like that, whether it is your own body's estrogen and you don't have enough of your own progesterone to oppose it, ie you are out of balance, or, you have too much estrogen from phytoestrogens and/or xenoestrogens(from plants, essential oils, laundry detergents, shampoos, conditioners etc, eating soy products). You could have a problem with your thyroid that could be causing this issue. You could have a problem with Adrenal Fatigue.

Please see an expert and do not diagnose and treat yourself! And do not blame Progesterone for this, when you do not know what is going on with your body!

Thanks for the info Hairizona. I'm seeing a hormone specialist and have had tons of blood work and saliva testing done to confirm my wacked out hormones. Maybe it's just my body adjusting to everything.
